Barbour Wins In Mississippi

11.06.07 -- 9:49PM
By Eric Kleefeld

This race didn't get very much media play, and it turns out there's a good reason why. The polls have only been closed for less than an hour, but the Clarion-Ledger has already declared Governor Haley Barbour (R-MS) the winner in his campaign against Democratic trial attorney John Eaves.

10:47 p.m. ... It looks like the Republicans are on their way to a near-sweep of the other statewide offices. With almost half the votes in, the incumbent state attorney general is the only Democrat who is ahead in his race.

12:36 a.m. ... Apparently there's one fly in Barbour's ointment. Democrats have retaken a majority in the state Senate, after losing it a year ago due to some conservative Dems switching parties.
