With President Obama sending 30,000 more American men and women to fight in Afghanistan, attention has turned to the military strategy for turning around the eight-year war.
Thanks to NBC's Richard Engel, we now have a visual representation of the military's plan. The above chart from the office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Engel reports, lays out the counterinsurgency strategy to achieve three goals: "Influence insurgent-minded individuals to adopt a neutral disposition"; "Influence neutral-minded individuals to adopt a supportive disposition;" and "Retain supportive individuals."
The double lines through certain connectors on the chart represent "significant delay."
The chart bears the logo of London-based PA Consulting, a firm with an office in Arlington, Virginia. A spokesman did not immediately return a request for comment.
