Heh, this reminds me of how one European history teacher described a tiff between the English crown and the papacy.  As the conflict escalated, the king resorted to calling the pope by his given name: "Hildebrand."  I know there was a larger point, but the teacher pointed out that he’d have been offended if someone called him "Hildebrand."
