Only republicans are being quoted about what needs to be done to "keep us safe'.

But that message also reinforces the impression amongst the wingnuts that democrats are the real enemy and eventually some wacko is going to act on that basis.

Finally we do need to remind the public about 1998. Mohammed Atta was learning to fly in Florida. Clinton was trying to track down OBL. And the republican party was focused on one mission – to bring down the President by any means necessary. We need to find quotes from congressional republicans from that time about the balance of power and the Presidency. What were they doing then to "keep us safe’?

The reason why only Republicans are being quoted on ways to keep us safe is because the American people do not trust the Democrats with such a serious matter.  In our system of politics, partisan divide has, over the decades, created niche agendas for the DEMS and GOP.  The latter, for instance, is turned to by the public in areas of economics, foreign policy, and military.  The former, on the other hand, are counted on for domestic measures such as education, crime prevention, and poverty.  The Democrats have not had a leading or otherwise successful foreign policy measure since FDR occupied the White House.  That is the reason why Americans leave security to the Republicans.

That is beltway CW and pure GOP pablum.  Read my last paragraph.  They will not hesitate to undermine the nations security when it is in their party's interest.  It remains true that they reveal their intentions through projection, the best way to know what they are up to is to listen to what they are accusing democrats of doing.

Interesting idea, but when the GOP is, and has been, the most dominant party in the nation since its inception (that is not to say the Democrats have not been in power, but even prior to the Industrial Revolution during the Civil War years industry leaders and prominent circles of society have been Republican) it is hard to accuse them of looking to the left for inspiration.  The Republicans run the United States as if it were a business (which, to be honest, it basically is).  The GOP leaves the "watering and feeding the horses" job to the Democrats; along with cleaning the stables.

So a CEO or a business owner makes slightly different decisions depending on who is in power. When republicans rule they can improve profits by applying more capital to campaign contributions and lobbying in order to obtain favorable legislation (like tort reform which manages product liability as a yearly write-off instead of applying capital to improving the product to reduce damages). In order to maximize lobbying dollars participation in industry groups increases which implicitly decreases competition in the market.

When democrats are in power business still lobbies for locally based favors but CEOs know they get more bang for their capital by competing in the market with product innovation and production efficiencies. Competition increases and that is the base multiplier. In almost all measures including wage growth, mobility, GDP, and productivity the economy has consistently performed better during democratic administrations even after you factor in the effects of economic cycles. During republican eras wealth inequality increases and economic opportunities decrease because with decreased competition it becomes a zero-sum game.  Witness Bush - Clinton - Bush.

Every business strives to be a monopoly.  So if republicans run government as if it were a business, what happens when they achieve monopoly power?

It is called fascism.
