Guest Worker Program
We need to watch this one. I'm afraid it could end up being the 21st century version of slavery. Will the 'guests' have any rights whatsoever? And if so, what protections will be afforded to some 'uppity messicans'? Is this the introduction to a revolving door of indentured servitude serfdom of guests? Legislation that authorizes exploitation with provisions for 'use "em and lose 'em" is patently inhumane and un-American. We have grown past slavery and torture, woops. Any legislation must include a path to citizenship. The numbers must be controlled by punishing the exploiters. Fences and walls will not stop those in desperate need nor those willing to prey on them. Criminalizing those who set forth, with hope as the only means they have in abundance, to a new land, has already happened here before. The debate needs to be how many immigrants do we need each year, and then absolutely control that number. Each immigrant that legally enters our country should be provided with a path to citizenship. Those found exploiting undocumented workers must be fined an exorbitant amount. If we need to employ displaced union workers to root these bastards out, so be it. No one else seems to have the gonads to do it.

So in other words, we have to let tons of desperate foreigners come into our country and then allow them to choose our new government for us? So in other words, we need to let the entire world determine our government? What if those Mexicans who want to come across the border desire to impose a government on us that we don't like? Why the Hell should we let every Tom Dick and Harry in the world have the right to vote in America?

I guess you didn't see this part. The debate needs to be how many immigrants do we need each year, and then absolutely control that number. Do we need stoop laborers? How many per year? An open debate with real answers to real questions. No I'm not advocating turning over our government to immigrants. To paraphrase Lincoln, "If your not going to use that government, can I borrow it for a while." From a previous post on my blog: If we can't get off our asses enmasse to protest the abuses foisted on the world by Dubya, then maybe we need some new pioneers with the grit to cross deserts, rivers, fight banditos on both sides of the river just to make a life. They have a hell of a path to citizenship and they're showing us the way. Feel free to take notes.

Sorry, you are right; I didn't see that part. And on that issue, I absolutely agree with you. Illegal immigration per se is not the problem. The problem (if there is one, which I think there is) is that we are taking in more immigrants than we can handle, and that we are not setting high enough "quality" standards. Illegal immigration is only relevant to the extent that it makes it harder for us to achieve whatever we determine to be the optimal number of immigrants and whoever we believe to be the best immigrants. Ultimately, deciding what we want from legal immigration and doing as much as we can to insure that our legal immigrants come in appropriate numbers and consist of good people is as important as making certain that people don't come here "outside-the-system."

If you mean to say Mexicans say Mexicans don't be a bigot or an ahole

My point with the "messicans" phrase was to emphasize the bigotry of the exploiters. Sorry if you weren't bright enough to figure that out. And don't be calling me a bigot or an ahole, jerk.
