Have you seen this?
Yes We Can
This is a kind of unbelievable spur-of-the-moment mashup of a song that could be huge. In all kinds of ways. I can totally see this being viral all over the place.

I got chills. Wow! We really are watching a defining moment in our history. I HOPE people are not so beaten down and cynical that they dismiss the power in this music and those words.
I only wish we could get this video seen as much as "I got a crush on Obama".

I have been having a hard time coming up with a decision for Tuesday. Who do I vote for? This video helps...

Very moving. The campaign is also featuring it prominently on their site which struck me as pretty remarkable. An embedded youtube clip seems kinda clunky and out of place on the home page. They must love it.

For a different view, go to You Tube and find the video "Obama's Failures in Illinois." Amazing music by James Blunt: "Wisemen."

On my third pass through the song, I just kept wondering whether there is another political candidate for whom a song like that could be made.
It's amazing how Obama seems to bring out the best in people. It would be a shame if that proved to be an "ineffective campaign strategy" and future candidates would instead opt for something less "naive" and "pragmatic."
I wouldn't be mad if Hillary were our nominee, but if she is, she would do well to borrow this tone and message from Obama. It's definitely powerful. If it comes to it, I hope she can pull it off.

This video perfectly sums up why I like AND dislike Obama. Moving as it was, there was no substance there, not even a little. It was glossy, entertaining eyecandy. It was a beautifully done advertisement. I want substance from this guy. The more I see of this kind of thing, the more I think he has none.
Yet I am also aware that it's exactly this kind of thing that will get him elected. The people he surrounds himself with understand this, and know how to do it well. This gives me hope that he would also choose the right people to surround him if he actually makes it to the White House.

Over a million views now. Wow!
Teri, just because there is an emotional movement behind him does not mean he lacks substance. Look at his website for his detailed, well-thought out positions. Besides we're talking here about a law professor at the University of Chicago! You don't get to that type of position on looks glamor alone.

Dear Hillary Clinton supporters,
I too would like to see a woman president some day. However, has anyone ever thought that this woman might be the wrong one?
It's remarkable to me that no major publication has taken comprehensive time to compare Hillary Clinton against successful women candidates around the world throughout history.
Or for that matter, draw up contrasts of her 35 year record to some other life-long U.S. politician(s) with 35 years under his/her belt. Moderate research (try it yourself) highlights nothing more than average accomplishments (this is without factoring in that she had a lot of open doors thanks to Bill's name. I honestly don't think she would have been seated on so many high level Senate Committees if she were not who she was by name and a trusted role player, to point out just one example.)
Clinton's promise of change, should she become President, would come in an old style way: cutting checks and making closed door deals. I'll be honest this style of governing works as long as there are players to play the game. She owes too much to too many people still playing, and so it is a joke to think she will abandon the 35 year old path that led her to where she is today in order to bring about fundamental government reform that we plainly need.
I take major offense towards Mrs. Clinton constantly blending herself with the type of change Mr. Obama speaks of. When she so famously stated (to applause) at the head to head CNN debate the other week, "Neither of us, just by looking at us, you can tell, we are not more of the same. We will change our country." This sadly diminishes the discussion to race, gender, and/or political affiliation and removes the true substantive differences she has with her opponent.
Hillary Clinton is an opportunist, unfortunately, in a way that most of us would not want to be labeled as.
Sorry, but she is just the wrong woman that I want for my country.

That little fledgling publication, Newsweek , did just that several weeks ago.

Great video. Obama scares me a bit because I cry after his major speeches. I reckon this is how the Germans felt after Hitler spoke. But Hitler made folks cry with some really bad juju, and this is something else entirely. The Clintons had their chance, and history will decide how well they ran things (hint: not so well, really, but I'm guessing far better than Daddy Bush could have come close to). Hillary seems spectacularly well suited as a legislator, and I'm sure Bill can find something to do with his energy, but Barack is something else, and maybe it's all an illusion, but it's sure working for me. Si se puede! I'm holding my breath.

Obama not the real thing?
Obama can't lead?
Obama has no substance?
This song was inspired by words from his speech after his LOSS in New Hampshire.
Compare that to Hillarys behavior after South Carolina.
Obama is what is needed and Now is the Time.

It's the difference between them I think.
Reaction to HRC: That was an excellent speech!
Reaction to Obama: Time to march!

Excellent post. Kudos.
I wonder if it's time for Obama to go more strongly negative on Hillary's bogus claims of 35 years of experience. I don't dispute that she is a smart, accomplished person. But I don't think she is any more accomplished than a lot of the Washington establishment, and, as you point out, almost all of her noteworthy achievements are due to her connections to Bill.
Hillary Clinton has simply not been a leader on prgressive issues in those 35 years she is so proud of. I don't know why we would expect her to suddenly transform into an effective champion for working class people now.

The question on the subject header is: Have You Seen This?
My answer Yup -- Before it was here at the cafe. A very moving video.
But I'm not one to knee-jerk to the point where I don't realize, since visiting My Dippy's MySpace site quite awhile back that, this is little more than Mr Dippy's self-serving spam. Must be the 40+ years of music business cynic in me.
I have noticed this thread has been stuck at the top of the Recommended Reader Posts queue for so long it has a 5 day shadow ...
I will say that one major redeeming value I find in this thread has been the fact that it's snared some new unsuspecting visitors and allowed them to post their one-comment-and-a-cloud-of-dust comment as the merrily navigate elsewhere in cyber space ....
Strikes me as what I refer to as MSS ... MySpace syndrome.

Right. So, um, I'm pretty embarassed this has been at the top of the Rec List for so long. I posted it as soon as I saw the video which was shortly after it had been released... about five million years ago.
Don't get me wrong, I think the video rocks and I was right that it would go viral.
So, hopefully, we'll get something else at the top of the Rec List soon.
Peace.

For those of you who support Barack Obama, PLEASE go to
www:freedomsenemies.com/_more/obama.htm
These are his own words from his book, friends and family. He was right when he said that no politician is clean. He is just as dirty if not more so than the rest. Some new change. He is not an outsider he's in the Senate. Why did he go along with supporting the war once he had the power to vote against it? What a hypocrite. I feel sorry for those who were taken in by him.
He has taken the great words of JFK and MLK and used them for his own. What a fraud. Yes the U.S. desperately wants change. They want change from George W Bush and it doesn't matter who it is. Obama wants you to believe in the words that he says but it's not what he believes in his heart.

btw, my only complaint about this video is that, of all the available campaign material, this is what Mom decides to email out to our entire extended family (we're Mormon, so there's a bunch of us).
I'll still vote for him, but I do resent his robbing me of my favorite pastime - sneering at the folks down on the farm for always voting the wrong way (until now, dammit).

The problem I'm having with Obama right now is that he has not fought back effectively against the Clintonian campaign of insult, deception, and innuendo. Mark Penn remains utterly uncommented upon by Obama. The fact that Hillary's closest adviser is a shill for Blackwater and Big Tobacco is, I'll bet, unknown to more than 1% of primary voters. And that's Obama's fault.
I'm afraid he may be too soft to take power. You can't win an election just with your own strenths; you have to exploit the opposition's weaknesses, and he has not even begun to do that!

It was clearly his victory speech since he thought he would win, he simply tacked on a congrats to Hill. Its an awesome speech, but the loss thing is irrelevant.
