Is John McCain really a Panamanian?

The New York Times today wonders whether the fact that John McCain was born in the Panama Canal zone renders him ineligible for the presidency.

When are we going to see pictures of McCain in his native Panamanian garb? Does this mean he is a practitioner of Santería or some other Caribbean/Latin American voodoo religion? Is his middle name Aureliano or Arcadio? or perhaps Chávez? Or even (shudder) Fidel?

As an army brat born in Germany, I sort of take this personal…

(Well, OK, my skin's not really that thin.)

Hah, that'd be the day.

Wow. What is happening to the NYT? Don't they have immigration lawyers?
Now, I don't know us laws, but my common sense tells me that merely being born somewhere does not a passport make.
Were his parents, or his mother Panamenian, at the time of his birth?

I'm beginning to wonder if the NYT is secretly pro-McCain, and is running all these "Silly Season" pieces to victimize him in the eyes of his neocons.

Repubes are gonna have a field day with this.
