Last Request to Cafe Management—Redux
I posted on 2/22/08: "…The one thing I now want some definitive information on is the fate of whatever content I posted in the last incarnation of the Cafe. Most things I had saved to my computer, but some I wrote on the fly and submitted without making copies. None of the content is worth much to posterity, but I would like to the ability to salvage those things important to me. Will there be a time in the future when we can regain what we submitted, or is it irretrievably lost? Can you let us know one way or another?"
Andrew replied on 2-22-08: "It is not lost, it will be loaded onto the site once the new server is up. Early next week."
Has early next week been pushed back? If so, to when?

I was already to do a redux of your post tomorrow, have it all typed up, thought I would give them one more day
But I was going to title it "TPMCafe Reader Blogs Still Not DeClassified by TPMCafe Government."
Yano, I don't expect free server space from anyone, as I am unabashedly pro-capitalism, and I think anyone going into publishing on a site should keep that in mind. But I'm for regulated capitalism, not laissez faire. To me, this would mean if you are going to shut off access to something, you give people warning.
I also like to give my business to places that appreciate history and archives. Frankly, for me, it's not about my stuff or your stuff, but some posts by some of the more prominent contributors remain in my mind as something I might want to point to in the future. It's a pity to put them away in a dusty room under lock and key when there's this invention called the internet that's supposed to keep knowledge accessible.

Like you, I don't expect free server space. I'll be more than glad to collect my stuff and move along. I'm an everyday essayist, I guess, much more than a political commentator. I'd like to be given a window for reviewing my things and retrieve what I want, and what's left can be disposed of.

That's not so much "regulation" as it is "good business practice". I think that if someone wanted to dump all of your content, they should continue to be legally allowed to. Doing so would not foster good feelings in one's consumer base, however.
I believe the short answer is that this week doesn't count. Not only is it a red week, it also contains that insurgent known as "leap day".

Thank you, Glenn. I was just thinking last night about how much I would have relished having certain things at my fingertips, things I wrote and things I read.
And yes, has time stopped here? As of tonight, it's been exactly 4 weeks since we were told that it would be 24 hours tops!
I too would have saved things, had I known they would become "lost baggage" in a trip I didn't know I was taking. A month is a long time in the lost luggage dept.
