NAFTA and Poor Judgement
Right at the end of February CTV claimed that the campaigns were attacking NAFTA but that Canada had been assured this was mostly campaign rhetoric. The Clinton campaign denied this as did the Obama campaign. Later, one news cycle before voting in Ohio, Texas, Vermont and Rhode Island, the Obama campaign was fingered as having reached out to reassure Canada about its campaign rhetoric, a charge we now know is false.
It turns out that the conservative Harper government created a sensationalized leak based on a memo which the government now admits innacurately characterizes events. In other words there were lies built upon untruths being circulated for the political gain of the Harper government who needed to downplay attacks on NAFTA. Consider how the Clinton campaign reacted to these claims from the Canadian right about both them and Obama.
Faced with accusations about the Clinton campaign which it knew were substantially false it chose to embrace similar accusations about the Obama campaign. They siezed the opportunity to insinuate that Obama wasn't the honest broker he claimed to be and this was just the start of things to come as he was properly vetted. Makes you wonder about the poor judgment shown by the Clinton campaign in going from "They are lying about us," to "They must be telling the truth about the other guy."
Failure to learn from experience is sad. When faced with a lie the Clinton campaign wanted to be true they bought it hook, line and sinker just like the angry right bought into every scurrilous accusation about the Clintons. Hillary Clinton may have a lot of washington experience, especially of being the target of unfound accusations and innuendo, but she seems to have learned little. In the end Clinton chose to let political expediency triumph over getting to the truth of the matter on important issues giving us yet another example of her poor judgement.

Because my good friends Ben and Greg have called me out and suggested i wasn't being fair by only highlightig attacks in these pages on Clinton, I decided this morning to make a similar list with attacks in these pages on Obama.
I begni my search like I did yesterday with a breeze through of the highlighted posts over there on the right hand side of the page. Well, at this time--7:45 AM EST there is nothing to draw from. Every one is either negative toward Clinton or neutral. (Majority, of course, being negative to Clinton)
Anyway, I know there exists in these pages rude and unhinged comments directed towrd Obama. And I intend to find them and hi-light them and mock them. But it'll have to wait til later. Nothing stands out at the moment and work beckons.
Til then, I'll leave you with this. Clinton has gone from my first choice to my second choice this past couple weeks. I promise not to become insane about it...just wanted to state it out loud.
Selah.

Due to my lack of coffee and other distracting factors, I posted this in these comments rather than on my blog page. My mistake and boy do I need to focus! Need caffeine!
Sorry.

There's definitely a bias amongst readers here at TPM towards Hillary, or at least amongst those who recommend, as well as amongst those who write blogs. It probably has something to do with the fact that we're all latte-drinking, Prius-driving, tree-hugging, ivory-tower intellectuals.
Anyways, none of us are without bias. Most (but not all) of us chose our candidates based off our "gut" and then later sought out information to support or reject that choice. Selective perception usually results in that information supporting our choice, unless the information we find significantly contradicts our intuition. Early on, there really wasn't that much concrete to distinguish the two candidates. Now, it seems the biggest informational distinction (as opposed to more ephemeral things like charisma) is how they're running their campaigns. Again, selective perception will influence how one judges that as well, but I don't know any Clinton supporter who actually thinks her campaign is more positive. They usually just argue about how it's necessary to go negative or how that's what the Republicans will do. Hm. It seems I went on a lot more than I intended to.
I'm sure Billy will tell me to stop whining soon.
