Obama/Casey '08 ?

Casey could make a good VP for Obama: a fairly conservative Democrat, pro gun rights, pro life, Catholic, popular with blue-collar white Dems, from PA, etc. I like Jim Webb better myself, but whoever it is they will probably need similar quality to both of these guys.

Maybe I'm being tin-eared here but you have to remember that for Obama to be the nominee means that Hillary Clinton has to lose and that means a lot of women voters are going to have to be won over. That's not a tough sell since Obama is pro-choice but putting a pro-life guy on the veep ticket might not be helpful.

I was flipping through the channels this morning and stumbled across Obama's appearance on The View. I wish I would have caught the whole segment, but regardless, that show has a huge national audience of women. As usual, Obama was warm and eloquent, and they all hung on his every word. Even Matt Hasselbeck's wife Elizabeth(?) was being attentive, instead of her usual right-wing talking points whining. I'm sure that Obama won over some more Hillary supporters today through that appearance. My mom is a big fan of the show, so unfortunately, I've had the displeasure of seeing the usual catfight that seems to dominate their usual programming. It's the only time I've seen all of the hosts quiet, paying attention, and really seeming to be interested in (and in agreement with) Obama's message.

How about foreign policy experience? I mean, I know Obama supporters are programmed to say that he has good judgment so he doesn't need experience and that he's visited lots of countries so he's a born diplomat. Still, it might be nice to have him choose someone who'll help him get control over the State Department and to stand up to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Not a chance that Casey will be considered. Pro-Choice is an entrenched litmus test in the Democratic party. Even if it were not, Bob Casey doesn't have the chops for VP (one heart beat away fromt he presidency). I am very fond of the senator, and even know the family quite well (his dad was my uncles best friend). But I just don't see him as presidential material. In truth, he's kind of boring; very studious and detail oriented, but dull as dishwater on the stump. Finally, he's been a senator for about as long as Obama, and his previous role as auditor general of PA, doesn't sell very well.

I'm with Destor on this one - no way will they put a pro-life guy on the ticket.

And Webb would be a good choice on experience but from what my brother tells me he seems to have some "controversial" issues as well - something about scandalous sex scenes in the books he's written. This is all I could turn up at first try, and I'm sure this is a right-wing source, but I'm going to assume that the quotes from the books are accurate:

And of course the fact that they are fiction books will do little to stop the GOP and Fox from quoting them nonstop and talking about family values.
