A Reply to Ken Blackwell Article/Spam on Obama

I received in my inbox from people I know and respect a lame article in the The New York Sun by Ken Blackwell.  It's not anything interesting, but someone edited it to explain why Obama is the anti-christ so it's getting lots of action.  Doing a search I found it on numerous blogs.  We'll see lots more of this crap in the General Election.  Below is my reply to the e-mails I received.

Anyone forwarding the antichrist bullshit should be ashamed of themselves.  I will happily debate you on the issues.

First let me say I'm quite happy we have two parties as we see what happens when one has all the power, so I want to be clear that I am not attacking Republicans and conservatives.  But, if you do not see that your party has been hijacked you need to open your eyes.  How many more have to die and lose their jobs and homes before you give up on the idea that history will vindicate you?  (If you are a CEO, I take all of this back.)

Ken Blackwell, who wrote this op-ed, is infamous for his conflict of interest and voter disenfranchisement during the 2004 election which led to at least sixteen related lawsuits against him.

In 2006 the Ohio Courier said Ken Blackwell "has proven that he's really not the kind of man we need as our next governor." and "Personal attacks of dubious accuracy should have no place in a political campaign."

Apparently Ken is all for allowing Al Qaeda to grow stronger in Pakistan (which our National Intelligence Estimate states is a much bigger threat than Al Qaeda in Iraq) and is happy for Bin Laden to have a safe haven.  Obama never said he would invade, what he stated in an August 1 speech was that "Al Qaeda has a sanctuary in Pakistan," and that "the first step must be getting off the wrong battlefield in Iraq, and taking the fight to the terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan." "If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets in Pakistan and President Musharraf won't act, we will". Obama has since pointed out that he "never called for an invasion of Pakistan."  Seems like Ken also supports Ahmadinejad as our mistakes and policies give him more and more power in Iraq, ignoring him really works well.  Obama said he does not support the use of nuclear weapons against small forces hidden among civilians, but Ken apparently advocates this.

I really don't think any republicans should be lecturing us on economics considering the state of our economy, with the middle class slipping, and increasing poverty.  The Republican leadership has decided that inflation and massive debt on our children is better than paying as you go.  If you acted as they have you would soon find yourself bankrupt.

Yes, he wants to frame the debate on social issues so that you don't vote in your best interests.  I am pro-choice, not pro-abortion.  If you are pro-life than by all means advocate for it.  But, recognize that your party leaders are only using this issue to make you vote against your own economic interests.  I'll never understand why people are afraid of gays, but it's the same deal in politics...just a wedge issue to divide us.

Ken wants you to think you won't have a voice if you disagree, but what he's really afraid of is that the people (including those in his party) will begin holding politicians accountable and become more active in the process.  He cannot abide transparency as his actions have shown over the years.  Nobody is asking you to give up your views and positions.

"I am not happy with the Republican Party today," Hagel said. "It's been hijacked by a group of single-minded almost isolationists, insulationists, power-projectors."
