Confused About Florida Blame

I was just watching Larry King Live, where yet again all of Hillary's supporters were accusing Obama of blocking the re-vote in Florida.  I know Obama raised questions about the legality of the mail in re-vote.  However, I also read in a post today that Hillary's National Campaign Co-Chair blocked the Florida revote.  Curious about that, I looked into it.

Per Hillary's site, Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wassermann Schultz is Hillary's National Campaign Co-chair.

Per an article on CNN.com on March 18th:

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- After weeks of negotiations, the Florida Democratic Party said Monday it will not hold a second primary in the state.

"We researched every potential alternative process -- from caucuses to county conventions to mail-in elections -- but no plan could come anywhere close to being viable in Florida," said state party chairwoman Karen Thurman in an e-mail sent to Florida Democrats late Monday afternoon.

"I'm glad that the party has reached the same conclusion that was reached by the congressional delegation a week ago," said U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Florida.

A supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton, Wasserman Schultz had staunchly opposed a re-vote.

She said she would consider a proposal that would allow the full delegation to weigh in at the convention, but she wants each delegate to have only half a vote.

Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, a supporter of Sen. Barack Obama, said Obama would like to see Florida's delegates counted in a way that would not alter the overall outcome heading into the party's convention

But, he said, Obama wants to "give Florida the opportunity to vote."

I found a lot of articles saying that Debbie Wasserman Schultz was blocking the re-votes,  including one from Governor Rendell's favorite "balanced" network:

Now I recognize you can read from these articles that Debbie Wassermann Schultz was against the mail in revote.  But how about the idea of a primary revote?

Per an AP story in the San Francisco Examiner:

Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida, has called for a new Florida primary, although he thinks the national party should pay for it. But Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz says another election would be too expensive.

And from another AP story:

"The potential of a do-over is slim to none," said Wasserman Schultz, a national co-chair of Clinton's campaign. "The cost of a do-over is beyond reach. A do-over would be unfair. We still have nerves that are very raw from the 2000 recount in Florida."

So now I am confused.  Hillary's National Campaign Co-Chair was instrumental in blocking the Florida re-vote, and we know Hillary refused a caucus in Florida, but Obama is being accused of stopping the re-vote in Florida.  I know Wolfson accused Obama of blocking the re-vote, but was that just to deflect the the criticism that is was really Hillary's campaign co-chair that blocked it?  Am I missing something here?

Yes, you are missing something. Good formatting, that's what! :) /jk

Well done, your post does raise questions about the frequent accusation that Obama's people blocked the Florida re-vote proposals. Also, I want to congratulate on being the only post I have yet seen that pulled up evidence for either side about this.

I had always liked Debbie Wasserman Schultz - but this recount thing is iffy.

And then there's this question raised all around the blogosphere - that she cannot support her fellow democrats! And she is on a committee that is supposed to do that very thing:

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz allegiance in question
March 19, 2008

Democratic congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the co-chair of Red to Blue, a Democratic congressional group working to expand the number of Democrats in the House of Representative. Democrats believe for the first time they have a good chance of unseating one or more of the three Republican Cuban-Americans representing South Florida — Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Mario Diaz-Balart.

The Democrats running to unseat them will have to do so, however, without the support of Wasserman Schultz. Her ties of friendship with the three Cuban-Americans are such, she says, that she cannot support her fellow Democrats. She will have to sit this one out. So will Democratic congressman Kendrick Meek, who reportedly has close ties to the Diaz-Balart family.

Hey, I tried to get the formatting right! I need a preview button...

But seriously, I really have been trying to figure this one out. I have searched google for Obama blocking Florida revote and the only mention I've found besides pro-hillary (Obama bashing) forums is the mention that Obama expressed concerns about the security of the mail in ballot. But Hillary's national campaign co-chair clearly did block it. So why isn't Hillary's camp getting the blame for blocking the re-vote in Florida?

There's a new MSM rule - they can only call the Clinton campaign complete liars once every 10 days.

It frustrates me that this blog is not front paged, considering that Hillary is running LIE ads in Florida and Michigan claiming that Obama is blocking their vote.

That story is on front page of TPM

She's running ads saying this?!?!? That I didn't know.

Love your screen name, by the way.

I did not know there are ads with these lies?!?! Where are the Obama surrogates? He has to get on top of lies like this.

Love your user name, by the way.

For those interested, please see this history which hhas many links back to the actual documents and press coverage as Florida went about screwing itself - Michigan, too.

Well, Shock and awe! Hillary 'Goebbels' Clinton has a new campaign strategy - same as the old campaign strategy - it's called "The Big Lie". No wonder her new best friends are Fox News!

Consider this great thread "Confused About Florida Blame" with this one just posted on KOS and there seems to be plenty of game playing afoot.

THIS IS BIG.

You are missing the point Florida should count as is. Both were on the Ballot and it was only Obama who cheated running national ads he knew would run in Florida. Obama compltely blocked the Michigan revote which clearly a lot of peopel alraedy voted for Hillary but which she was willing to pay for a revote. Obama blocked the revote and then you heard the chorus of Obama supporters yelling she should quit. Obama is trying to "hoodwink" the voters of Florida and Michigan, he is giving them his "Okey Dokey" move and then will fibnish with a "bamboozle."
I have learned a lot from his speeches and try to quote him whenever possible.
Did anyone see the limp wristed one Bowl a 37?

Hillary signed a pledge that Florida wouldn't count. Do you want her to break her pledge?

Not too shocking to see the TPM Troll in Chief going the sexist/homophobe route by mocking Obama for being "limp wristed." Is his jump shot effeminate too?

Notice how the pathetic troll can't write in intelligible, complete sentences? Maybe that's why it can't be bothered to read the actual history of how the rules came to be, and how the events that led to this travesty actually unfolded. Further, it might also explain how Hillary gets any votes at all, so many people living in denial.
