Hilary for VP!!!!!!

Ok, hold on, take a breather, let me explain.

I posted my reasons for why I think Hillary will be Obama's VP in an earlier post so i will not make the point again.  Like many of you, I agree that this is not preferable, to say the least.  I hate Hillary Clinton and she stands for the oposite of what Obama represents.  However, I am beginning to be convinced that Obama can secure the presidency if he chooses Hillary as his running mate.  Hillary has a lot of support and a lot of her supporters are saying that they will not vote for Obama.  If he doesn't pick her then i think that it is going to be a little too close for comfort in September.  So here is the question, would you rather have Obama win with Hillary, or lose without?

None of the above. These are ABC poll options, not real options. Clinton has disqualified herself from a place on the Democratic ticket. period. Obama has a better chance to win, and will be in a better position to govern, without her. I agree with the TPM poster who said "A loaf of bread can beat John McCain."

Guys, let's not be ignorant of the numbers! The last poll showed that only 50% of democrats supporting Hillary would vote for Obama. I don't care what network is showing those numbers, the FACT is that because of the negativity produced by Hillary a lot of democrats think that Obama is not "ready on day one." I think that we can't dismiss the fact that 50% of people voting for Hillary may not vote for Obama. That is alot of voters.

Those numbers will shift radically once Hillary endorsed Obama, and she will. Clinton's negatives are too high for her to make a good VP candidate. If the only concern is helping Obama win, there are at least a dozen candidates better suited for that position.

**Her support comes in no small part from republicans. They'll vote for McCain anyway. NO real democrat will. So, NO NO NO on hillary as VP. AGAIN. NO NO NO!!!!!!!! She's a pox on the party.

Obama will win without Hillary. She's only a big pile of negative baggage at this point. Plus, if she we're VP, Obama could never turn his back on her or he would have a knife in it.

Stranger things have happened. But to be honest, I just don't imagine her accepting it if he made an offer. That is of course, based on absolutely nothing.

I guess you may be right. She may not want to be his VP. But the Clinton's were talking about a joint ticket before, so i don't know...

**As has been mentioned all along, Hillary is not stupid. She KNOWS she will not get the nomination, and has been running for VP for weeks. She knows he doesn't want her, and is trying to force the issue.

I reject the premise that Obama can't win without HRC. I think a segment of the Repub base would stay home on election day without HRC on the ticket, but the motivating factor of having her on the ticket -- in any position -- will bring many more Repubs out in the fall. And with HRC on the ticket, Obama could lose the support of moderate and disaffected Repubs who shown a willingness to support Obama.

I don't know if he CAN or CAN'T win without Hillary, all i know is that more Democrats would vote for an Obama/Hillary ticket than not, at least according to the numbers we are receiving.

I guess the question is, will more Republicans come out to vote than Democrats staying home? Are there more republicans than democrats statying home if Obama does not pick Hillary?

**I don't think that's true. I think Obama people are Obama people for a reason. They're sick of people like Hillary. NO NO NO on Hillary as VP.

I agree, but Obama has run such a great campaign that Obama supporters would vote for him regardless of who's on the ticket. I don't care if he runs with his dead great grandmother, he has my vote. This is not the case, or so it appears, with Hillary suppoters.

My father has said he'll vote for McCain no matter what, but if Clinton is in the VP slot, he'll get out and start canvassing, donating, whatever he thinks it'll take to make sure McCain wins. It's kind of odd, because he couldn't really explain to me why he feels this way, but he feels very passionate that he doesn't want her anywhere near the White House.

So, one can argue about what she'd bring to the actual job of VP, but as far as helping the ticket—she wouldn't.

Ben, like i said before, you're only looking at how many republicans will go out and vote AGAINST Hillary, you are refusing to look at how many democrats will stay home if Obama wins the nomination. Again, the fact is that we should be looking at whether there are more republicans staying home if Hillary is out than democrats coming out to vote if Hillary is in. I don't think that, as a lot of people are saying, a lot of republicans will stay home instead of voting for the Old Man. The fact is that every republican i know is looking forward to going out and voting for their candidate; republicans are consistant in showing up to vote. True, if Hillary is on the ticket republicans would have a better reason to raise money and go out and vote, but a lot of democrats (Hillary supporters), would also have a better reason to go out and vote and raise money for their candidate. Like i said, the question is, can Obama win without 50% of Hillary supporters backing him? I understand that that number will not be 50% but i also know that there will be a significant number of Hillary supporters who are buying what she is saying about Obama and will not support him in the General Election.

I'd like to see Obama offer it to her. And I'd like to see her decline.

Then I'd like to see her cross over to the Republicans, where she belongs.

McCain could then offer her the vp spot on his ticket and everyone, including many of her supporters, would be happy.

Somehow, I don't think the Republicans would agree with you. A lot of Republican pundits have been talking her up, but make no mistake, she's still as hated as ever in red-state land.

How hated would she be if she were considered an asset to McCain?

I don't know about others, but I will prefer Obama that much less if he chooses to have anything to do with that lady except for making her do the concession tour where she and Bill will profess daily their eternal admiration of Obama's candidacy.

Would he lose your vote? Be honest.

The campaign she has run has disqualified herself from the possibility. Besides Hillary is so power hungry, I'm not sure I'd feel safe if I was Obama and the only person standing between Hillary and the Presidency.

Any Clintonite voting for McCain proves they were never voting the issues, but rather the idea of a female President. I think the vast majority of Clinton Supporters saying they'd vote McCain over Obama will end up voting Obama (same case for Obama supporters saying they wouldn't vote Clinton) as the differences between Obama/Clinton are pretty small compared to the difference between Obama and McCain.

I think in both cases, the biggest real difference (i.e., what is witnessed on election day instead of what's in the polls) will be in who decides to (a) canvas, (b) donate, and (c) vote. If they vote, most of these people will vote for the Democratic candidate, regardless. However, they might feel like it's too much of a hassle since they don't really like him/her that much anyways.

A tough decision for him, if it comes to that. As far as up to 50% of Hillary's supporters saying they won't vote for Obama in the GE, I think that likely the thrashing noises of a dying candidacy. In fact, hasn't she been trying to use this issue to black-mail the party into giving her the nom.?

Guys, I just want to clarify, and i think this is clear, I do not like Hillary. I actually really don't like her. But this is why this is a tough situation. Would we rather have Obama/Hillary or Old Man/Romney (or whatever)? I understand that most of the arguments here are saying that this is not the choice we have, and that may or may not be true, but the more that Hillary supporters say that they would not vote for Obama the more likely this ultimatum becomes. I refuse to buy the argument that having Hillary on the ticket would be a negative for Obama in terms of getting votes. The fact is that she has a lot of support. Yes, republicans would have another reason to go out and vote, but HOW MANY republicans compared to democrats?

It looks like we're back where we started. We haven't changed your mind and it doesn't sound like you've convinced any of us. As Nancy Pelosi said: "Trust me, it won't happen."
