I just watched a man choke back tears because his son's going back to Iraq. It's time to end this.
I just watched a co-worker of mine choke back tears.
His son is being stop-lossed. OUR GOVERNMENT is sending him back for a THIRD deployment in Iraq.
He literally went to his ETS processing and the paperwork wasn't signed. Instead of separating in June, he's now scheduled to re-deploy in September. He came home from Iraq last November.
This bullshit primary is the greatest gift we could have given that Lame Duck and his henchmen. While we're pixel-whacking about flag pins and middle fingers, people are fighting and dying because we STILL can't find the guts to say NO MORE!
We need to do everything we can to end this bullshit now.
Are your representatives undecided? GIVE THEM HELL. Don't use kid gloves. Tell them lives are at stake.
Know of any party Superdelegates in your area? Call them up. Tell them we can't wait another minute.
NO MORE.

I'm with you. I have one cousin who's on her fourth tour of duty in Iraq.
Obviously we should begin pulling out of Iraq. However, if we don't, then we need to institute the draft in order to provide relief to our men and women already over there. It's ridiculous.

Pull out of Iraq. No draft. No more access to people as cannon fodder for Cheney's insanity.

If you call your undecided rep, please consider posting their phone number on this post to make it easier for others to follow suit.

One other thing everyone should do: write to the DNC via the democrats.org website and let them know that you'll give money to the party only after we have a nominee. Until then, not a dime.

Peter Paul propaganda does not belong on this thread. (or any other imo)

Don't you think there are mothers and fathers as well as people in the armed services that support Clinton and want her to continue to fight on? Hillary is likely to win PA and some of those who vote for her will likely be mothers and fathers of children in Iraq. You're using this father to further your agenda in a similar way that bush uses them.

And Hillary as well.
Please explain to me why she is using the phrasing of Bush/Cheney for her war march on Iran.
If we can't trust her to fight their propaganda, how can we trust her policies?

This was before she made her vow of "massive retaliation" against Iran in the debate on weds.
And again she is not reading the most recent NIE which stated categorically that Iran had stopped its nuclear program.

I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt here, and say that I understand. Soldiers, their friends, and their families have voted for several different candidates in this primary. In a sense, for this reason, it is unfair to make an emotional appeal to end the primary; because, as you imply, if it were to end now, Obama would win (I hope that is not too contentious a point-- if it is, imagine that I instead said "if it were to end now, things might favor Obama"). And, to be very harsh, I can see the analogy to Bush/Rove tactics in using the military to further political goals (though I disagree with your analogy here, I definitely understand it).
All of that said, what I did here was this: I listened to you. I wish you had done the same to Nate's post. If you had, it would have read a little differently, maybe something like this:
"I share your frustration with this war, and your sadness. I have friends and family too that have really been hurt by it! And I agree, this primary, as it drags on, is focusing on petty things, instead of really important things like this war. However, I disagree with your emphasis to call undecided superdelegates as a response. Let's hold the President accountable. Let's hold Republican members of Congress accountable. While the story of your friend is very sad, and my heart goes out to him, I want to caution you against using this to support your preferred candidate. This reminds me of Rovian tactics-- I'm sure we can, at the least, agree that Rovian tactics are a bad thing."
That, to me anyway, is the difference between simply arguing, and listening. Now, it wouldn't have to sound that psychobabbly and nice-- you are of course welcome to write in your own style, even a biting style. And I am completely a hypocrite here, because I usually just go for the kill too! The other day someone's comment rubbed me the wrong way, and I went all "you're misquoting Jesus" on them! Truly awful of me, and my apologies for when I have offended you. You probably have written many things where you have listened, and I'm sure in actual life you are a compassionate person, which I take from your politics. I just think after the DF royal rumble yesterday, I am going to try to actually listen to you when you write, and I hope you would consider returning the favor, not just to me, but to loathsome Obama supporters (no matter how loathsome their writing).

Did I tell anyone to call their delegates and push for Obama?
Nope. I just said urge a decision so we can focus on ending this war. Thats it.
Call your reps and push for Hillary. Fuck, call MY reps and cancel my calls out. Whatever, just END it.

For the record, I agree with you, and I think your point was clear. I just wanted to listen to oceankat as an exercise in civility. Great post- and, I agree, the stop-loss is sickening. Stop-loss is a euphemism for the old fashioned shanghai. This is also known as slavery.

I too have 2 friends that are going back because of "Stop Loss". In the one case his son signed up after 9-11-2001, and the other he is in the reserves and was dur to get out at the end of this month.
The really sad thing about the second case is, after his last tour they had put him on suicide watch. He just could not handle the things that he saw over there. His wife is in fear of "his" life, before he even redeploys. He left an outgoing person, and now spends most of his time locked in his bedroom, away from his wife and kids.
The first friend says that it is hard to get a read on his son, because he does not even talk about it.
