If Only They Could Still Use The N Word
At first I thought the Wright issue was legitimate. Wright's comments were disgusting, and Obama not only attended the church, but took his children there every Sunday, or however frequently he attended church. Nothing that Wright said ever caused Obama to publicly repudiate Wright or leave the Church.
I never thought that Obama shared Wright's belief that the government invented AIDS to kill black people, or any of the other absurdities that Wright spewed. I thought it was probably the case that Obama didn't even attend church that frequently. I thought the significance of the story was that Obama was like so many other politicans, a member of a church primarily for the political organization it provided, not it's theology.
I still think that's the case, but I don't think that's the why the media is playing it anymore. I could not believe Anderson Cooper last night. I don't think they spent 20 minutes on the tornados and the rest on Wright. He kept replaying clips of Wright's speeches over and over again. Then I realized that they're not making the point that Obama is as much a politican as the next senator. The point that is being made is," This is what black people say when white people aren't around."
The story is now being played to associate Obama with the worst sterotypes that white people have about black people.
I don't want Obama to be the nominee. I support Hillary. But I can recognize this is disgusting.

I'LL USE THE "N" WORD !
Mine is "Necrophilia". It's what we witnessed at Wrights Press Club Mental Breakdown. He not only screwed the pooch but a dead one at that.

"CREEPY" MAYBE, "BIGOT" FOR SURE
I'm hating in all directions in equal distribution. Hey wait that does not fit the definition! I must be a "liberal"! OMG!
Now go make me a sandwich.
HOPE CHANGE does not mean Tee Ball with Farrakahn on the White House lawn.

well bless your heart.
Thanks for being a stand-up person and posting this.
I'm for Obama. But regardless, I would have been as disgusted as I am by this ongoing character assassination of an 80 year ex-marine who devoted his entire life to his country and his god.
But the Republicans are great with this kind of character assassination and the press belongs to them.
I do appreciate Hillary saying she isn't going to play anymore. I do blame her for keeping this going in PA - but I'm not going to make an issue out of that here.
I think you were wonderfully fair to post this comment.

And I personally know some who are lapping it up. :(
It gets to a point where it's just too tiring to have a conversation with such people, although I know that such an attitude is not helpful.

Thanks for posting this. As an Obama supporter, I've tried to call out some of the sexism in this campaign, and I appreciate when Clinton supporters help call out the racism.

I'm really upset too, but mostly because this is distracting from everyone's foreign policy ideas going down the toilet. -.- Fareed Zakaria wrote today that McCain wants to kick Russia out of the G8, and this was the first time I heard. The speech Zakaria was refering to is from a month ago! Isn't this a little more worth reporting than "Where Is Wright Today"??

This is something I'm just now realizing during this election. As I never was much into politics, just voted for my candidate and called it a day.
I voted for Obama for Senator in Illinois and at the time, had not thought of him running for President. Since he has ties to my state and I am very big supporter of his, I have become more interested in politics.
Now I feel as though I've been living in an alternate reality and am now just coming into real life. I will never look at the media in the same way.

Indeed the myth of the Liberal Media was perhaps the most effective GOP campaign tactic of the past 30 years. Certainly some prominent individuals in the media are liberal, or at least lean more to the left, but the mainstream media has a large pro-establishment bias. The latest example is the virtual media blackout on the retired generals story the Times ran 9 days ago.
Frankly, it's one of the things I like about TPM - it has bias, too, but Josh makes no bones that this is a progressive, or even (gasp) Liberal site. Everyone has some biases, and the idea that a media can exist free of all bias is a myth. The internet, well used, allows us access to a far wider variety of viewpoints than conventional media, and that diversity is a good thing.
