Race Issue May Be A Wash

At this point, I think electability arguments based on race are a wash. I can't imagine African-Americans voting for Hillary in large numbers if they feel her candidacy lacks legitimacy.

Can she really carry Ohio, Pennsylvania or Michigan if African-Americans don't vote for her in large numbers? And forget about making Virginia blue or retrieving Florida.
There are no easy choices for the Democrats for calibrating the race issue. Yes, many white people won't vote for Obama because he's black - we don't need studies to tell us this. And, many African-Americans will sit out the general election if Hillary is the nominee - again, no studies needed.

A lot of those Blue States in the Midwest and East are Blue States because of Blue Cities. They are Blue Cities because of Black folk - period.

Just try winning them without those Black folk.

Yeah. Ok. Whatever.

Try winning them without the elderly and female vote, if we're talking about taking our toys and going home. Try winning them without white males if we're going to label those against us as racist Archie Bunker types.

If Obama accepted the VP slot would voters support the ticket?

I think so, overwhelmingly.

Older white women and black folk (and unions which swing both ways) are the backbone of the democratic party. They cannot win without either group. these are the worker bees of every Democratic victory.

I just can't imagine a split here being a good thing.

We always liked working together in the SF Bay area and I just can't see Dems winning without joining forces. We cannot leave either group in the cold.

dream ticket.
