The Liberal Blogosphere's Response to Obama on Fox

The liberal blogosphere likes to think that Obama is running to be president of only the MSNBC watching crowd. But he's running to be president of the viewers who watch Fox, CNN, MSNBC and Comedy Central.

is your avatar a woman bowling? always wondered

Them lib'rals and their Obamas, why haven't they accepted Hillary as American Jesus' choice for Glorious Leader?

Liberal blogosphere needs to get over itself.

We need him to win more than we need purist bowing to Kos.

I have seen two blogs that seemed to have any sort of outrage over his appearance on Fox. Two.

Okay, make that three.

Sigh. I see only the first sentence of my initial post made it to print. Well, it was probably all down hill from there anyway.

But, here's another shot at it..

There seem to be two sets of overlapping arguments that state the liberal blogosphere’s opposition to Obama’s appearance on Fox:

1. his appearance on Fox was a violation of our (and presumably his) principles; and
2. his appearance will be ineffective, possibly even backfire.

I say overlapping because, one of the main arguments that falls into category (2) is that Obama’s appearance on Fox made him look weak. But, the only specific support I’ve seen of this claim has little to do with anything Obama said or didn’t say but rather is a direct result of the belief that Obama violated his principles - a belief that is obviously in the eye of the beholder (or the mind of the believer).

The other argument I’ve read that falls into category (2) is based on speculation as to what Fox News in particular and the rightwing echo chamber in general will do with Obama’s appearance. And I suppose that remains to be seen. The right’s immediate response is interesting, though. The first time I watched the Obama interview, I switched off the T.V. as soon as the interview was over, not wanting to hear what the Fox goons had to say about it. Later, though, when I caught the last 20 minutes or so of the interview again, I decided to see what the Fox goons had to say, at least for as long as I could stand it.

And you know what? They were stunned into murmuring nothingness. They weren’t so much disarmed or charmed by Obama. They just had nothing to say. It was quite illuminating, actually.
