Is this one of them Rorschach tests? Letting people project whatever they want onto your post?

Blog post comment.

Witty reply.

Why, thank you. It took me a while to come up with it...I wanted to express the same emotion, and expend the same amount of energy in my comment that this blogger put into his original post.

Snide retort from troll

user-pic

A reminder not to feed the trolls.

user-pic

Blog post comment response (refutation).

user-pic

THIS IS EXCELLENT NEWS!!! FOR HILLARY!!!!

Scathing attack on idiotic, accompanied by concern for it's welfare.

user-pic

The arrival of grammar nazis, angrily (yet futilely) pointing out the error.

Retort from grammar libertarians, mocking failed attempt at conjugation.

Followed by several seplling erorrs.

HAA! Done in by absent Edit Function!

It's a Recommend Test, isn't it...?

user-pic

The real question is, now that this is on the rec list - was the test a success or a failure?

Cute cat BTW. Not as sexy as the old avatar, but you simply can't go wrong with a black cat.

Comment indicating bitterness and self-loathing for choosing insufficiently cute avatar.

user-pic

You can't go wrong with a black cat.

Does this mean that one can only go Right with a black cat?

no, no, no! Black cats also go Left.

Off-topic response assuring poster that their avatar is plenty cute. Further droll comment indicating a preference for black cats with white patches.

Side note acknowledging further movement OT in complimenting clever user name while attempting not to fawn.

Are you a cute black cat too (hard to tell on this screen)? Nice to meet yu! ;) What's your kitty's name?

Obligatory sexist amplification of question - don't you mean to say "what's your pussy's name?"

negatory.

Sophomoric comment about sporting wood.

Rocky, because when he was a wee little thing he'd sit on his haunches and play 'bat the hands' with me. Now that he's old and fat he'd tip over if he tried to stand up.

Hey Rocky!

My cat's name is Stash. He has a perfect milk mustache on his upper lip.

Re avatar: thanks! I think the old avatars prevented people from wanting to talk to me. Hence my cat as my avatar. Everyone in my neighborhood wants to talk to my cat. ;)
Thanks for the avatar encouragements.

Re:

The real question is, now that this is on the rec list - was the test a success or a failure?

a)it was a successful failure because it made it into the rec. list.

b) it was a successful failure of success because it was a tease and we all fell into it willfully. We wished to be played and we were/are, smiling all the way to a dead thread with joy. Just look at the party atmospherics in here. ;)

user-pic

Cats are playful. So are people, even some adults :)

Snark.

More snark.

Concluding snark.

Acronym indicating perceived hilarity.

Noob comment expressing puzzlement about said acronym.

user-pic

What a wonderfully well written post. Short, sweet, to the point. It only everyone could express their thoughts so succinctly!

Thank you for your refreshing perspective. It's not often we see posters present their thought with such clarity, wit and honesty.

Recommended.

A Blue Ribbon Comment.

A pro forma polite blog comment with just a bit of extra shine.

Reply to blog repliers.

Excellent reply, Leroy. I like how you expanded upon your previous point.

Highly recommended.

Thank you for reply. Feel honored by recognition and notice...

Blog post flame.

Snark at flame intended to embarrass the flamer.

Snark doesn't work as the flamer has keyboard courage fortified with Pabst Blue Ribbon.

First blog I've seen in a while where I agree with every word.

Gratuitous recommend to promote inanity of post.

Explanation that previous comment was in response to LisB.

Lament about lack of an edit function.

Gratuitous reply to eliyah for mentioning my username in response to someone else's blog.

Inter-post snark about comment made on another post, complete with running inside joke.

LOVE this one. Damn software.

user-pic

Meta-comment decrying the triviality and lack of substance of this post and lamenting the declining quality of posts in general.

user-pic

Tempered by the approving observation that everyone who's posted here so far has an avatar, linking to my own thread on avatars:
http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/04/a-vote-for-avatars.php

Tongue-in-cheek response to another poster whom I already adore and no longer need to kiss as of, wherein I praise wayitwas for being so brilliant as to notice we all have avitars, and snarky response to wayitwas for promoting their own previous (and highly recommended) post about avatars.

Followed by my apologies if my kissing ass has not been enough and you decide to flame me.

Followed by my realization (personally written, all about me and my family and all of my ex-boyfriends) that I don't need to kiss ass anymore, and I'm my own woman and that's why I'm voting for Obama in November.

Followed by my apology for writing "ass" wrong, in the first sentence of my previous post.

user-pic

Expression of thanks and mutual admiration to LisB, who makes unique and much appreciated contributions to the sense of community on this and many other threads.

user-pic

That's just laughable. Or it would be, if it wasn't so sad. The author throws out his preposterous idea out there without bothering to support it with one single piece of evidence. Or even plain old facts. This is not intelligent discourse, it's drive-by posting.

The editing is pretty sloppy, too. And honestly, sticking to one-syllable words does not reflect very well on the intelligence of the author. A five-year old could have written that. Come to think of it, perhaps a five-year old did write that.

It's just another symptom of the dreadful malaise afflicting TPM. Practically death throes. The quality of the posts here has truly hit the rock bottom. It's all the unwashed Internet riff-raff gatecrashing this once-great blog. Someone please put TPM out of its misery.

Scathing reply suggesting you should take your condescending attitude to another blogsite that features ongoing food fights among entrenched foes.

Response reminding previous comment to beware of covert snark.

Sheepish apology about being too obtuse to recognize inherent snarkiness of the poster I just flamed.

user-pic

It's all Obama's fault. We'll take this all the way to the convention!

Flame that the post contains no sources or links supporting its claims.

Response to flame with link that doesn't work.

user-pic

Nomination of this post for the Frank Mullen III Welcome Distraction Award.

Asks if anyone has seen Frank Mullen III lately?

Second the nomination.

Nomination of this post for being an intelligent post.

D'oh!!

That's what the recommend button is for, isn't it?

An attempt to start a "wave" with idiotic's catchphrase

user-pic

A ripple in the wave.

Foam at the crest of the ripple of the wave.

Inappropriate branching of wave into non-standard ending.

Duplicate foam at the crest of the ripple of the wave.

user-pic

A warm welcome to new poster nobody_you_know. Eager to see an avatar to match the name!

Frustrated and cranky and profanity-laced comment about not being able to figure out how to load an avatar without getting some stupid error message.

Apology for the above profanity, and complaint about having to work on a holiday weekend.

Sympathetic comment, with reference to wayitwas's post, http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/04/a-vote-for-avatars.php, with an exhortation to keep trying.

Abashed acknowledgment of inept cut-and-paste skills.

http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/04/a-vote-for-avatars.php

Lame attempt at humor.

Snark.

Knocked over by ripple of wave.

Feigned amusement containing juvenile attempt at flirtation.

Flirt! Flirt! Flirt!

batting eyelashes, batting eyelashes.

user-pic

Don't forget to also gently swish your tail in that delightfully feline way.

Tail swishing, lazily.

user-pic

Quietly admiring the swishing action, wondering how cats manage to be such graceful creatures. With really sharp teeth and claws.

user-pic

Rif on wave comment to remember Hunter S. Thompson's lament on the passing of the 1960s and its "sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil." "There was no point in fighting -- on our side or theirs," he wrote. "We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark -- the place where the wave finally broke and rolled back."

Waves 'hello' to wayitwas, in response.

Could quote another poet here, of course, but decides to keep that for another blog post instead.

It's comments like the ones in this thread that exemplify everything that's wrong with the other side's supporters.

Piling on without any further content.

user-pic

Posting a complete non-sequitur including a link to nothing of relevance to the topic of this thread:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKMyuzuE27w

Attempt at insightful comment, falls flat.

Insert obscure reference to counter-culture movie from 1975 involving killer rabbits and prancing Englishmen.

Thanks to subpost for some followup to attempt at insightful comment, even if nonsequitor.

user-pic

Deplore lack of moderation by Lamont. Some of these comments are clearly off-topic.

user-pic

I resemble that remark!

Copy and Paste from another post....

Blog post hijacking thread to unrelated anti-Billary topic by self-professed Billary-hating troll.

YOU CALL THIS EXCELLENT NEWS FOR HILLARY?

who has the "audacity" to come to the party naked and devoid of avatar. How crass... how uncool...

Adds snarky comment that the Emperess has no clothes.

Late-comer to the thread replies with one-line comment to anyone because missed all the initial fun is just trying to get into the thread.

user-pic

Sleazy reference to a hot tub out back. * wink wink *

Hot tub? Beer? Wine? Refreshments?

Considers invitation and sneaks off to enjoy bubbly dip.

Promises not to mention "shrinkage" problem.

user-pic

...my wife already knows. ;-)

Further acknowledgment of blog post repliers.

Excellent moderator of blog thread!

Blog moderator's extended hiatus from blog is noticeable. Blog commenters are now blog squatters.

Reply that commenter has nothing else to say about that.

I deny reading this.

I deny writing this.

user-pic

I deny posting comments to it.

I denounce and repudiate any involvement with this.

I reject, denounce and renounce this meaningless, spittle-riddled thread.

This blog is a suborning corrupter and should be hauled into the center of town and tweaked with a fork.

Suggestion to repost this post daily until expiration date.

Resolve to not allow this post to have an expiration date.

After all, this post had no post.

THIS
(Oops, sorry, Lis. That was supposed to be a reply to rabbitsmorgasbord, upthread. Damn software.)

New coined word "upthread" enjoyment of.

- Yoda

It's sort of like evil TPM reader commenter "Registered User" and his generic troll-like name. (I don't think you're a troll though).

Insert shark jumping reference here.

Yes. I think I'll make my exit here, and come back for the reunion.

Mention of "shark" incites public panic. Reports of man-eating Great Whites come flooding in.

Department of Public Safety threatens to shut down blog until shark threat is lessened.

PETA and other animal rights group begins protests... threatens "blog-in."

Comment ridiculing surfers' abandonment of wave and scramble to board jet skis.

Mention of "jet skis" inspires overheated conspiracy theory re: secretive VP selection process, uncannily well-timed endorsements.

Recommend!

Recommend!!

Recommend!!!

Blog post indicating caring and thinking for all peoples in a vain attempt to prove caring and thinking for all peoples, and a superior use of language to justify one's own blog name.

blog commenter advises on selecting a more mundane, meaningless, unburdened blog-poster nic/nym.

OMG! I just realized this is The Seinfeld Blog. The blog about absolutely nothing. No wonder it is so funny! Guess certain comic principles are absolute...

A confused inquiry asking if all Mac users have this problem?

user-pic

An authoritative reply stating that no, we don't.

A desperate plea for instructions on block quotes and how to put up an avatar.

Snooty comment about html code, with instructions:

blockquotes: quote
italic: emphatic term

(all without spaces between )

Plus bonus link to simplified html chart:

Observation that your rebuttals all follow the same pattern. Attempt to decry obfuscation of the salient issues refuting your position.

Clarification that this comment was meant in reply to Otto F above. Lament that cascading thread hierarchy obscures actual thread progression.

Would-be pundit laments that posts about posting always get the most recs.

Relevant Molly Ivins quote hoping to elicit responses from other Molly Ivins lovers.

Notes appreciation of relevant Molly Ivins and adds Ann Richards and Kinky Friedman anecdotes to mix. Remembers the good ole days of Texas Monthly.

user-pic

Long drawn out heartfelt recollection from childhood
on feelings felt as a child when the above happened and how it shaped my views forevah.

Anxiety that post will disappear within hours, like all TPM sandcastles that we build, then watch as they are washed away.

Bemused meta metacommment.

Correction of misspelling and obligatory gripe about lack of edit feature that was in TPM commenting system before last.

user-pic

Is the Leroy S. who still owes me $35 for that bag of pot I sold him in 1979?

user-pic

Typo correction "Is this the Leroy S..."

I would like to thank LeroyS/Lamont Williams for creating this delightfully idiotic (no relation to eponymous poster) and troll-free, if also somewhat content-free, thread.

user-pic
troll-free, if also somewhat content-free
Not a bad trade-off.

Les Ismore thanks blogger for not titling it "An Open Letter to Hillary Clinton."

Spam.

Such bitter disappointment at having to search for blog post once it was relegated to the archives.

Delight at finding it again. Laughter at new additions.

Requests it be done again someday, soon...
