"Dogs and Muslims next????"
Do be careful. Barack Obama got off on a bad footing with the gay community when early in the campaign he enlisted Donny McClurkin to MC his campaign's gospel tour. McClurkin is an outspoken "ex-gay" singer and minister who has made comments about "the curse of homosexuality", and once said as a speaker at the Republican National Convention that gays are out to murder America's children. McClurking used the Obama event to preach against gays. A lot of gay people saw Obama's invitation to McClurkin as akin to Edwards inviting a member of the KKK to MC one of his campaign events. Obama could use gay support. So do be careful.
Obama has said he does not support gay marriage, so do be careful.
One of the arguments that persuaded the majority of the conservative California Supreme Court (six of its seven Justices appointed by Republicans) that the State's ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional was that in 1948 when the Cal. Supreme Court struck down the State law that forbad mixed-race couples from marrying, 70% of Californians opposed mixed-race marriages. Fortunately the most recent polls show Californians about evenly split on gay marriage, and the momentum has been moving in our direction. However an argument could easily be made that if Obama calls himself the candidate of "change", and believes in equality, then any opposition to gay marriage would be highly hypocritical. So be careful.
Many gay voters and many Hillary supporters are finding it difficult to contemplate voting for Obama. He is going to have to tread very carefully. If he makes the wrong move, he will lose votes, including mine. And the kind of things his supporters say do make a difference. So do be careful!

The dog and Muslim crack bothered me too.
As a heterosexual man who writes and occasionally works to advance the cause of sexual minorities (and who is in a mixed-race marriage, no less), I'd really like not to see a comment like that again in here, even in jest.
Democrats must not take the gay vote for granted. Gay voters are roughly 70-30 Dems, and will be preponderantly with Barack because they wisely don't take progress or Dem victories for granted either.
