Elites are the new Wingnuts

This occurred to me, after my diary in one of the "progressive" blogs was received as most pieces are supporting Hillary Clinton:  Spat at and taunted by the usual paid Obama operatives, and I was called a Troll about 50 times.  And 90% of my posts were made invisible, just from spite.

These Obama operatives are the new Republicans

Al Gore, 2000.  Just wanted the votes counted to see who won the election.
Jeered at by the media, Overwhelmed, made to look foolish and narcissistic. . .

Fast forward to two states with citizens who voted honorably in our primary.
Given the draconian punishment of having their democratic rights as citizens removed, because their state primary was moved up.  That was the premise, anyway.  The actual reason is the party was hijacked for the purpose of making one candidate the democratic nominee.  Best accomplished by blocking votes from being counted.

And one candidate fights against a revote.  DOES NOT WANT THESE VOTES COUNTED.  AND HIS SELF PROCLAIMED PROGRESSIVE FOLLOWERS BACK HIM ON SUSPENDING DEMOCRACY.

And this candidate's proposals are to the right of the candidate who will suffer when and if the voters are disenfranchised.

It is 2000 all over again.
Cult democrats have hijacked our party from the majority.
And most surreal of all:  The head of our DNC, the "TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY" candidate.  My hero for 4 years. Howard Dean.  Appears to be a perpetrator in this coup.

This piece will be followed by all the Freeper style taunts and jeers.  Same people, aping each other. Filled with blind hate.  I repeat BLIND hatred that we were so contemptuous of in Wingnuts.

Go into Dailyi Kos. Write something positive about Hillary Clinton. Count the hours that you are troll rated off. Just like Free Republic.

The whole damned thing is inverted.

Howard is the new Katherine Harris. Obama is the new George Bush. Hillary Clinton is the new Al Gore.

What a mind fuck.

and Olbermann is the new O'Reilly.

Hillary is the new Lieberman. Slummy/Present is the new Michelle Malkin.

Write something positive about Hillary Clinton.

When Hillary endorsed John McCain she spoke very articulately.

Actually, Present might have a point there. Olbermann scares me just a bit. Too much yelling and pounding the table. Not exactly a great representative for my sense of civility, at least.

I tend to agree about Olbermann. Not my cup of tea. But at least he's on the right side. If he were to do something like endorse McCain that would be an entirely different story.

And you're simply a fucking idiot.

Axelrod is the new Rove.

Maybe your posts get spat on because you cherry pick your facts man. Obama was against a Clinton donor sponsored re-vote.

The idea of an election being sponsored by one candidate is sickening in its ramifications.

What would you be saying if in 2004 Bush had said, "Hey it's ok Democrats, we'll do a re-vote in Florida... and here is a million dollars from the republican party to make it happen."

I think we would all be freaking out.

Stop cherry picking and we may take you more seriously.

I think you overstate the case a little, but ONLY a little.

If one were confined to getting his impressions only from TPM (Thank God, I'm not), one would have a hard time seeing much overall difference in tone between the GWB supporters of 2000 and the Obama supporters of 2008.

I think to be fair, one has to realize that "blog" culture is not truly representative of very much. A relatively small number of people have either the time, or the literary turn of mind, or just the inclination to spend a lot of time doing this. An even SMALLER number (often with hidden agendas of their own) tend to monopolize the discussion.

Let me give you the same advice I've given several other people in here who had problems with the behavior of fellow posters, for one reason or another:

You have ONE unique and entirely valid viewpoint. Express it as honestly and as fairly as you can, and let the chips fall. I've found in my own case that if you do that honestly, you CAN make a little bit of a difference (sometimes in ways you'll never be directly aware of). If you allow yourself to be run to the sidelines, you can't.

I think you'll find that Obama supporters are treated in much the same manner on pro-Clinton Web sites. There's a lot of animosity right now. People are dug in on both sides largely seeing what they want to see, myself included.

Even the title of your post suggests that you are participating in the same behavior you are criticizing. "Elites"? Really? What exactly do you mean by that?

I know that word is thrown around a lot so I looked up the definition and here's what I found:

elite: A group or class of persons or a member of such a group or class, enjoying superior intellectual, social, or economic status.

Doesn't that pretty much encompass every single elected official, and most people working in politics in Washington?

As an Obama supporter, I'll assume you're calling me "elite" (and a wingnut, heehee!).

But don't you think that, at least secretly, anybody who posts a blog would consider themself to enjoy superior intellectual status?

So, on behalf of elites everywhere, allow me to welcome you to the club!

I'm an Obama supporter (former Edwards' supporter), but I agree with you about the elites.. but not just with the Obama campaign, there are plenty of them in the Clinton campaign, and across the democratic party. I agree with you about Hoho Dean as well. We had a wonderful DNC chair candidate who believed in true grassroot organizing who got slammed by the elites.. because the nutroots are NOT interested in true grassroots issues or empowerment.

The big problem in this election is NOT race, but class, again NOT RACE, but CLASS.

I don't care what the color of your skin is, if you are an elite, advocate the censorship of the rights of others, their free speech, their legitimate right to have their issues represented at the discussion table, you are guilty of censorship and fascism. Labeling others trolls, merely because you find their concerns inconvenient is an act of demonizing and demeaning, it's an act of violence and hatred. It is no different than the tactics of Mussolini or Hitler.

The elites in the Obama campaign do not care about the poverty faced by working poor and struggling black American. They are seeking to exploit their legitimate concerns for their own agenda. These are the same people who ran roughshod over the issues of working poor and struggling Americans of all colors and ethnicities in 2000 and 2004.

These same elites believe, like neo-cons, that civil rights and social justice should be redefined to what suits them only.. that you should have to be wealthy enough to purchase protection under the constitution and bill of rights.. that is no exageration. These are the nutroots types who pretend that there is no poverty in the US, that poor Americans who are white are "rednecks". Who attack anyone who challenges their rationale of imposing dire poverty, joblessness and homelessness on working poor, to middle class American citizens. These affluent nutroots are overwhelmingy white, but they also include people of color. Being indifferent, cruel, abusive, and exploitative are character traits, not decided on the color of your skin.

Go to the Obama blog and point out any articles that deal with the issues of poverty, or any that deal with outsourcing, with the need to take on the corporate elite's attempt to destroy wage and workplace protections in the US. You won't find one. The nutroots don't care about those issues. They're idea of a labor movement is lead by the likes of Andy Stern, who has been destroying worker's rights, depressing wages and cozying up with corporate and business elites. Stern doesn't even believe in the right for the rank and file to become union management.

Like in elections past, they will fail. From talking to democrats across Michigan, I am aware that there are more all the time feeling that the democratic party has returned to the same mindset, the same lack of ethics and values that it did when it was the party of slavery. They unfortunately might vote against democratic candidates because of this.

interesting comment, wws, thank you.

Hang on, hang on--I'm supposed to be paid for supporting Obama! Where's my check??

This piece will be followed by all the Freeper style taunts and jeers. Same people, aping each other. Filled with blind hate. I repeat BLIND hatred that we were so contemptuous of in Wingnuts.

I can't speak for all of us, but this is precisely what we see you embody each and every day on TPM. I don't think Clinton wants supporters like you, "Present"/Slumlord. I don't think the Democrats do as a whole, either.

I repeat BLIND hatred that we were so contemptuous of in Wingnuts.
