The Obama campaign has announced a "major national endorsement" for a rally tonight at 7pm in Michigan, and the rumor mill is swirling that it is none other than Sen. John Edwards.
In other news, Switzerland has decided to join the Allies in their struggle against Nazi Germany.
And this is a new update by Halperin:
Radio silence from six senior Obama officials when asked directly by The Page: “Is John Edwards endorsing Barack Obama today?”
This would be sweet and would completely knock Hillary off the media radar, wouldn't it? ;)
A little too late.
Edwards is pretty much irrelevant at this stage. the only SD that would matter anymore would be Al Gore. I guess Edwards did get 7% of the vote in West Virginia last night, and he and Barack made up the 40% of uncommitted Michigan voters...
I wonder if Edwards is embarrassed by that 7% last night? It's not good for the Dems that some WV voters would vote for the white male non-candidate rather than for the woman or the black man, as RJ Eskow outlined today:
This would be very nice. Just because Edwards isn't Gore doesn't mean he's irrelevant--plenty of Democrats wanted HIM to be the nominee, and his endorsement would be quite welcome.
What tickles ME is that the Obama campaign already had it scheduled--whichever big endorsement it is--to hit the day after WV. THIS is how one runs a campaign.
I think Edwards is more relevant now than he was 2 months ago, because he's the white guy who had the populist message--so could appeal to Clinton's so-called "base." It would be very powerful if he were to start campaigning for Obama in some places where Obama needs help. Gore will wait until all the votes are counted--how could he not?
Yeah, send him to Kentucky. He's good for a couple extra percentage points there... And don't forget the 18(?) delegates that are his to give, as well!
It sounds as if the Obama team is getting even better at the PR game- keep everyone anticipating and wondering who is going to endorse. It changes the WV narrative and focuses our attention on a positive for him. The announcement will be on time for the evening news and he wins a news cycle.
Edwards could have helped with West Virginia, but if this is for real, Edwards will also help with Kentucky.
Maybe an Edwards VP wouldn't be such a bad idea after all, since WV showed lsat night that he has some appeal for the Appalachia vote.

This is how you run a campaign. Watch and learn, Hillary. (You can cry, too.)
