Genghis, your link goes to your other post "Better Reader Posts" and not to the story.

Great news, though!

Genghis, your link goes to your other post "Better Reader Posts" and not to the story.

I wonder why that could be...

user-pic

Please read that post, and will be made clear.

user-pic

Oh no...this looks headed for the rec list.

Yessss!

user-pic
3) Better recommendations. This is perhaps the most important change we can make. People are going to post crap. We can't stop them. But we don't have to recommend them. And all the technology in the world won't help the recommended list if we continue to recommend poor quality posts. If you see a post that has little journalistic merit, don't recommend it. If you see a post that you strongly agree with or which is written by someone you like, you should be more, not less, critical. Remember that your natural bias in such cases will be to recommend, so ask yourself whether it really deserves your recommendation on its merits. Do not think of yourself as waging a battle to put more pro-Obama posts on the list or to make sure that everyone hears the latest news about so-and-so.

By all means, if you haven't already done so, click on Genghis's link and recommend that post.

But if this post makes the "Most Recommended" list, then Genghis wins "Hypocrite of the Day."

Or maybe "Hypocrite I'd most like to have a beer with."

It does pose a conundrum, does it not. I was tempted to hit recommend because it made me laugh, but I would be loathe to disappoint Genghis by doing so.

user-pic

I see now that "Hypocrite of the Day" is exactly what Genghis is aiming for.

It's a test.

Some famous quotes on hypocracy:

Once you stop hypocrisy, you start dying.
quoth Albert Einstein

Hypocracy is a wonderful thing, and you can snuggle up to it on a cold night.
quoth Marilyn Monroe

Wal-mart . . . Do they like make hypocrites there?
quoth Paris Hilton

Is this meta-humor?

Or did you just undermine your previous post?

Or both?

user-pic

The people who recomended this post without checking the link verified the premis that people recomend shit.

I recommend this:

"Last Friday, we compared the Clinton campaign to a shark that must continuously move forward in order to stay alive. Here's another muddled maritime metaphor that applies: that of a killer whale toying with a baby seal before inevitably eating it. Unfortunately for Clinton, she's the seal."

The Hillary Death Watch: http://www.slate.com/id/2190479/

user-pic

Thanks for the link.

I heard that Urbinato is not really from NC, thereby negating any bump in the looming NC primary from his now discredited endorsement.

Meheheheh.

user-pic

Wait - so you create this bullshit story just to drive readers to another of your posts - chiding diarists for not behaving correctly?

Here's one tip you missed: Do not waste my fucking time.

haha, genghis got called out.

user-pic

By some bald headed dork no less...

user-pic

I'm pretty sure it was a self-deprecating joke. Nerd humor. Recursive. LOL. Snort.

user-pic

I resent the "nerd humor" part. Your avatar is a cat in a bunny suit.

user-pic

I don't think genghis or any of his fans are concerned that you aren't happy with his experiment. I'm tickled.

Wonderful news - 2 -0 so far...He has almost catch up with the loss from PA...Wonderful...

user-pic

Yoda says: You're going to have TPMers with pitchforks showing up outside of the Genghis house.

I didn't think you'd freakin do it!

What am I talking about? Of course you'd do it.

Genghis, don't you have anything else to do than misleading information...

Need more rickroll.

user-pic
user-pic

Uh, that didn't come out as I'd planned. I meant:

Happy to oblige:

http:/www.yougotrickrolled.com/

Wow. What is that, an anti-rickroll rickroll?

A VERY important piece that will affect super-delegates here.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/02/black-issues-group-price_n_99759.html

I would hope that supedelegates would not need this to be pointed out to them so explicitly.

Yesss!!! on the rec list.

The combination of meta-meta-meta-commentary and self-contradiction should finally create an endless logical loop, reducing all TPM content to an absolute singularity and pulling Genghis and Urbinato both through into the Matrix, where they will be trapped in an endless episode of Seinfeld.

user-pic

I know kung fu.

How does he feel about this?

Ahhh...that was pure comedic bliss. Thank you.

Okay, people, the choice is yours. Recommend this post, or recommend desidero's post from last night about healthcare: http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/05/universal-health-care-is-good.php

(Or recommend anything else you prefer.)

I think you just blew some street cred, Genghis.

Visual: Hanging my head down, shaking it.

No, he has transcended street cred.

Snark and substance, partisanship and objectivity, Obama and Clinton -- these oppositions are only illusions. They are the veil pulled over our eyes to blind us to the deeper truth . . .

Heyyyyy... Genghis - how'd you get your shirt to be all blinky?

It's sort of festive - I like it!

ARGH!

AHOY YE MATES!

THE TWO-FACED LANDLUBBER GENGHIS ATTEMPTS TO POOF HIS EGO!

AND THEN USES THE WENCH EXCUSE "IT'S ALL JUST A JOKE"!

NO PRISONERS!

GRAB HIM! TIE HIM UP! MAKE HIM WANK THE PLANK!

CONQUER! PILLAGE! MERGE! DILUTE! DILUTE!

ARGH!

user-pic

But... I want to recommend it! I won't though. Must be strong...

user-pic

I couldn't help myself. I see genghis in that technicolor dream shirt and I just have to click that rec button.

I really wanted to, but didn't.

user-pic

DF has willpower!

lol.

I was thinking "Didnt you just make a posts about NOT doing this??" haha.

I was thinking "Didnt you just make a posts about NOT doing this??" haha.

That's what his next post is going to say, with a link to this one.

His goal is to take over all ten slots on the recommended list, with posts that do nothing but chain all the way back to the "better posts" post. And it would be an improvement!

user-pic

Oh man...that's freaking brilliant!

If he can do this, so that all ten recommended posts on electioncentral are written by Genghis, I'll pledge an extra $50 to the Obama campaign.

Yes he can!

user-pic

Now that would really be obnoxious. I'll pass, though I encourage you to donate in any case. And it is brilliant.

If he does, would you please post a blog telling me that and then get it recommended a hundred times so I can donate another $50 to Obama too?

user-pic

Can we have less of these undigested links to news items? *:o)

user-pic

I rec'd this one, by the way. The other one is old shit.

The problem with this post is the lack of analysis. I read the entire post, start to finish, and don't know a damn thing more about P.J. Urbinato than I already knew before. Sooooo not recommending.

And why haven't Greg and Eric posted on this?!?!?!?

user-pic

Yeah, and Eric said it was within the margin of error.

lol....so funny!

lol....so funny!

lol....so funny!

Lol...So funny!

Sorry...computer froze!....But still funny!

user-pic

Are you guys trying to crash the Internet again? Damn!

user-pic

The question I now leave you with is: who recommended? Those who were excited about the endorsement of Rep. PJ Urbinato (aka Yoda)? Those who thought that this post was funny? Those who thought that they were in on the joke? Those who wanted to encourage people to read the linked post? Ponder amongst yourselves.

-----------------------------------------------

By way of comedy to redeem this thread I hereby leave you with the varied reactions to my shirt. I apologize for the vanity of the compilation, but I think that you will be entertained. If anyone wants to see the true color of my shirt, please join me to watch the IN/NC results come in on May 6th at Revival, 129 E. 15th St., New York, NY.

RSVP here: http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/4kf8

COMPLIMENTARY

Don't listen to 'em, G. That shirt is boss.
Posted by DF

Heyyyyy... Genghis - how'd you get your shirt to be all blinky?

Posted by RhymesWithUrple

I've been meaning to say I love your shirts.
Posted by readytoblowagasket

CRITICAL

don't change the pic dude
change the shirt
Posted by Cypher

nice job looking even douchier in your new profile pic! love the collar.
Posted by okee

I've never seen a dumber shirt in my life.
Posted by BionicSoy

I, for one, am not excited by the shirt.
Posted by TTGZ

HELPFUL

It's a good effort, Genghis, but if you're going for the full-on '70s look, Genghis, you'll need to abandon modesty, lose the white T-shirt, and show some chest hair. Preferably with a large gold medallion.
Posted by scofflaw

Suggestion for your next avatar: keep the collar and add a kilt.
Posted by Yoda Urbinato

SNARKY

Please buy Dr. Genghis a beer or two, get him a little tipsy, and try to get that shirt from him.
Posted by Yoda Urbinato

And who bought that green collar for you, Einstein?
Posted by BionicSoy

I saw that shirt (and that pose) on a dating site. Are you trying to pick up some TPM love, genghis?
Posted by burnedoutdem

The Electric Kool-Aid Acid shirt? ;-)
Posted by GMan

He should consider hoop earrings. Then he'd pass for a failed pirate.
Posted by Cricket4

Your shirt must be radiating some nasty waves there.
Posted by codegen86

Don't feel badly that commenters are trashing your style. It's rather dashing in a Ricky Ricardo way.
Posted by lally

SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER CALLED
They want their shirt back.
Posted by RenStimpy

NAUSEOUS

I would love it if people would refrain from using animated avatars. It's nauseating. Truly. I have to avoid that stuff or I'll heave.
Posted by TerryCarroll

ACCUSATORY

I refer you to:
http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/04/the-troll-whisperer.php
where I stated, in reference to my short Kool-Aid Man avatar:
I toyed with the idea of changing his color according to my mood (especially when your pic put me in a 70's frame of mind).
The next thing I know, you've got your psychedelic shirt on.
Posted by clearthinker

ARGUMENTATIVE

Our next running (REAL) debate will be over the salmon colored shirt Genghis is sporting in his new avatar.
Posted by Yoda Urbinato

Genghis is wearing what can only be called a decidedly peach color.
Posted by LisB

It is clearly vermillion. Perhaps with a dash of crimson. It is no more salmon than Charlie Tuna.
Posted by anneeliz

TEH shirt is coral and the collar is positively ......flamboyant.
Posted by lally

I still say salmon.
Posted by Tom Wright

Someone with protanopia would see that color as dirty olive green.
Posted by Evainne

Apparently the trolls say it's douche colored.
Posted by Yoda Urbinato

I said it was a peach color, first. You said not. I then tried to appease you by calling it terra cotta, next. You said not.
I even threw out a brick, goddammit.
NOW you're calling it close to coral (which is one shade darker than peach) but more vermillion.
(throws hands up in disgust)
Posted by LisB

Elitist colors all.
Posted by The Commenter Formerly Known as NCSteve

OBSESSED

It changes colors! How can you not talk about it!
Posted by am

(in th event of my deather I leave all my brightly colored shirts to Genghis.)
Posted by Yoda Urbinato

I think that's really a gift to the entire TPM readership. Genghis has generated more entertainment with one brightly colored shirt than the rest of us have with our whole wardrobe.
Posted by CaliforniaPaige

WEIRD

I'm just going to nibble on your shirt a bit...
Posted by goatlife

NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT

What, a guy can't compliment another guy's shirt? Are we not post-homophobia enough for that yet? I mean, I could see that it might be questionable if I had said something about your shoes...
Posted by DF

user-pic

You forgot:

Dismissive

I don't know how this even makes sense, but you look shorter in this photo than in the other.
Posted by Allsburg

user-pic

Please keep your comments topical, baby. This is about the shirt, not my height. That's a subject for another thread. And after that, my glasses.

Wanted everyone in the whole wide world to hit the link to that oh-so-sensible metapost. And proud of it.

I am honored to have bookended that set. Also, RenStimpy's comment would have been funnier if it had said "Tony Manero called" etc.

I rec'd because you did not want the rec.

;P

How late do you plan on staying at Revival? Bit of a schlep from DC, but I might be willing to undertake the journey if reasonably assured that I don't show up to an empty venue.

Oh, and nice shirt.

user-pic

Depends on the results. Last time, it run until around midnight. If you decide to come, first friend me at http://my.barackobama.com/page/dashboard/public/gGnyqX
so that I can contact you if anything comes up. I wouldn't want you to drive up for nothing.

user-pic

Are you really gonna wear that shirt?

This might require me dragging my butt to the City.

Will Lis be there?

user-pic

She whined about it being a school night. Get on her case.

I will wear the shirt. It doesn't change colors in real life.

user-pic
it run until around midnight

Geez, you sound as tired as I am.

You done good, sir.

Is there any interest in a similar sort of event for the Bay Area folks? I'm trying to think of a bar that would have election results on TV around here....

One of these days... but not on a school night. I'm over the hill in Reno, so I can't really scoot over for a weeknight get-together. DF's around there somewhere, so maybe he'll chime in.

I'd really love to, but I can't do Tuesday.

Thanks... I was actually just about to pop into Firefox history to find the link. Responded over there.

user-pic

Paige, when I did the PA results party, not many people from TPM showed up, but Obama supporters saw the event on mybo and came from all over the city. It was a fun event, despite the sad results, and I met some cool people. All I did was reserve space at a bar and publish the event. If you decide to do something like that, let me know. We can send out a joint message over the tpm-aholics list server on Monday.

(This goes for anyone else who wants to organize a party on tues.)

user-pic

Good place to continue the discussion.

Nice summation by Tom

http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/05/tpm-cafe-features-everyone-wan.php

Now you fucking tell me.

After I posted a poem.

user-pic

Lis, have you been drunk posting again?

One of the improvements to the site I'd like to see is recommends that are weighted for irony. It might assuage some of the moral crises people are having over whether or not to recommend anti-recommendation posts.

An ironic recommendation (achieved by left-clicking ironically) would be weighted 50 percent or something. Like Guamians or Democrats Abroad casting primary ballots.

That super-delegates are going AGAINST the popular trend is enhancing the grassroots quality of the Clinton campaign. How ironic!

This only lends fuel to the idea that Obama is a front man, a construct for the powers that be.

Women -- particularly black women -- are shifting because they realize that they are the majority. The African American percentage of the vote particularly in North Carolina is going to be SUBSTANTIALLY altered by the defection of black women from the Obama camp.

user-pic

Was the above a snark so clever that it looks like the poster is utterly clueless... or is it exactly what it looks like?

user-pic

Here's an irony. This post is on track to get more recs than "Better Reader Posts".

OBAMA GETS ANOTHER SUPERDELEGATE

I came in here expecting a fab, well written post on how wonderfull the new delegate is for having endorsed Obama. I found the link to be a dud. Seriously, it won't load for me.

Qenghis=Liar, Liar, Shirt on Blinker.

user-pic

I believe that that should be: Liar, Stinker, Shirt on Blinker.

Honestly, the stuff that I'm seeing posted by our hosts offers so little that interests me of late, that I say Recommend with wild abandon! The only posts that keep me coming here are the Reader's Posts.

NC can't come soon enough. I feel like I'm in the ninth month of pregnancy...

Question for anyone who has the answer:

If I try to go back to my older posts, and click "More Entries," I get a Forbidden error. What's up with that? (All my blogs are post-TPM-changeover.)

user-pic

I have the same problem. I told Andrew Golis about it, and he said that he would look into it.

user-pic

And Obama Gets Another Superdelegate has expired.

Final tally...

Better Reader Posts: 57 recommendations
Obama Gets Another Superdelegate: 56 recommendations.

I hereby rate by own post to bring the total to a poetic finale of 57-57.

Good night and good luck
