Obama Spiritual Support Network

Forgive my appearance--I've been feeling a little under the weather.  But today on MyObama, I was invited to participate in this event.  I won't make any comments about it (at least not in the blogpost body), but you can take it for what you will.
Dear Friends,

We are Barack Obama supporters and independent spiritual practitioners, who feel it’s important to extend a special blessing of spiritual support and protection to Barack during this time of the presidential campaign. We invite you to join in with us in whatever way works for you: prayer, meditation, ritual blessing, song, affirmations, whatever…

Let your heart-light and conscious blessing surround Barack, nurture and sustain him, gently yet firmly protect him from all reactive, misguided intent, and support him with the spirit of mutual empowerment, hope, freedom, and change that he is bringing so profoundly into American politics and, truly, into the social contract of all humankind.

Whatever you do, however you do it, we suggest that you make a point of dedicating a few minutes each day to this blessing, support and extension of spiritual protection to Barack Obama. Any time that works for you, whether it’s a regular time each day or not, will contribute to our united efforts.

With deepest respect, regards and blessings for your participation and contributions.

Takes all kinds, I guess.

Hm, maybe they took my post too literally :)

Each day I send LIGHT which is the binding force deep within each and every human being on this planet. I agree with the above post and do my part as a practioner of Human Spirituality. I ask whatever force you believe in, or even if you believe in none, say the words. They have a great potency of their very own.

Also, Please recommend so that it does not roll off.

That avatar is bad karma.

That avatar is rude.

K, allsburg, give it to us. What did you think?

Personally, as an agnostic and non-spiritual person, I don't have any problem with people reaching out to others as shown in what you posted. It's obvious the good sentiment is in earnest and it's a wholly positive message. It has zero appeal to get me to do what the sender suggested. But if it appeals to others, so be it.

I've never been a member of any religious institution, but I find religion fascinating, mostly in a positive sense. I don't think my own view on spirituality is better or worse than anyone else's. One's personal spiritual beliefs are among those things no one has a legitimate basis to criticize. Religious tenets almost universally promote positive values. Some practitioners twist beliefs to nefarious ends (the KKK, e.g.), but at its core, spirituality and religious worship aim to uplift and to provide moral guidelines.

So, if I was supposed to laugh at the message you received, I can't. I live my life in the biggest possible tent, accepting of all manner of human interests, opinions, and lifestyles. The philosophy of the Democratic Party mirrors my values much better than that of the Republican Party. And Obama's ideas and ideals appeal to me more than Clinton's. But that doesn't blind me to the good intentions (or bad intentions) in other camps.

Live and let live.
