Readers Contributions to TPM Process
I just want to compliment the ongoing process by so many TPM regulars (especially Ghengis) for starting a discussion about how the site can be less insular. I hope that other readers will keep posting.
Also, I think Ghengis might provide some update posts on the process.

Here's a suggestion: why doesn't TPM have a technical issues page?
I know, I know, TPM's concept is supposed to be free of the normal guidelines for the confused and inexperienced, but come on, you elitists! If we're at the point where there's always one or two blogs about TPM's innards, I think ya'll should consider adding such a thing to your "about" page or something.

Cypher, the "elitist" outburst wasn't directed at you; I'm talking to whoever is running this joint.

I know this has been said before, but it sure would be great if we could delete our own diary entries. Since we can't go back and edit, and can only see if the code didn't work after the post comes up, it sure we be nice to be able to simply delete the whole thing and repost it.

I'd wager that 99 percent of the issues could be solved with a preview feature.

Who is this "small group of posters" that you see as "controlling" this site.
Just curious.

You know, I'm going to refrain from a list. I think that there has been enough honest talk about "insiderism" to make the point.
May 3, 2008 9:14 PM | Reply | Permalink
No, not really.
There has been talk of the threat of it, and the complaint that those who enjoy snarky breaks are somehow behind it.
It's overrated. Look at the leading posts and poster from 3 months ago, 6 months ago, and a year ago. You'd be hard pressed to recognize any.
TPM changes. Somehow, now that there are more posters here than ever, there is some big complaint.
It's nonsense. The cafe is as diverse as it's ever been. That some posters mutually respect and seek each other out isn't any kind of threat. There isn't one "in" crowd. There's several.
That is the nature of the internet and this mode of communication.

Back then, "snark breaks" were pleasant among a certain group of pics. Today (6/28/08) you have to have permission.

And the point was that the several groups that workerbee decribed rec'd the posts of their friends, and many interesting posts went down because these daily snark and personal chat rooms didn't allow for new posts to be rec'd. Every day, the same group posting and not rec-ing anybody new.
This is so obvious. Today, also. And when something the insiders don't like then all the complaints about the number of rec's is heard. They have no idea about the numbers of people who do rec a post and why.

C, what are you doing hiding out in here? I come to wake you from your slumber.

All the good posters are getting run off. Come back, C.
This place is going to hell in a hand basket.

Hillary. I don't think that Cypher is "sleeping" or being coy. I think that he realized the only way to remove his picture in an actual post was by inserting a comment which causes the system to replace the old with the new. I think also that he is trying to keep the comments on his page to a minimum so that they can't be used to backtrack to where he has posted. And each time something new posts it goes to the top and takes a lot of new comments to make it go down and out.
I thought that I saw a message he left for you that explained that he has a family to support and needs to be anonymous for his work. It is hard to remove yourself from the system as it turns out. I suspect that it is in no way personal. Just something that he had to do with the sudden change in circumstance. He cares for his friends. But had to leave. I'll need to push this comment down on my post till it goes away. You might consider the same thing slowly. There are a lot of smart people out there who don't like him. And anything can happen when details are cross referenced on Google. The universe with no context turns quickly.
I know that one of his favorite lines from Whitman are these which he posted for Teddy and Obama:
On the beach at night,
Stands a child with her father,
Watching the east, the autumn sky.
And he had me pen his sense of himself with these about his favorite poet.
I am lame and cripple in his gaze
He who hath the world oft time amazed
Vapid silly aping 'neath his sun
Phoenix of the eons was John Donne.

Oh. How stupid was this. I followed this from your comments and didn't realize that it was the one Cypher Post and can't be deleted.
So, I'll have to point out to anyone that makes it here --and I'm really hoping that won't happen --something that Cypher's lawyer pointed out. And Wow. If you think Cypher can mean, his lawyer is a NY bulldog in a suit. Just loves to fight anything. So he would point out to anyone else that thought about tracking down Cypher with the intent of making the results public the following from the terms of TPM,
Things you can't do:
1. upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available ("Post") any Content:
- that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, false or inaccurate, *****invasive of another's privacy *****, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable;
8."stalk" or otherwise harass another; and/or
9.collect or store personal data about other users.
I imagine if he saw something headed that way, who ever posted it (a lawyer can get an IP address in a minute) there would be some unwanted consequences.
I also know this. Other than moving down these comments so they go away. This is absolutely the post that will ever come from Cypher's address.

ugh... make that "absolutely the LAST post that will ever come from Cypher's address."

ugh again...Chpher's IP address.
He's happy to have been here. He hooked up with Robert Goins by email, the guy from the WV discussion and who is following his multi-racial history. Whenever you see Goins post, please recommend him.

I seem to remember that Cypher offered anyone to contact him over friendly issues at an anon email address, and to clear up privately any matters of over real identities among friends to avoid
any miscalculations.

The Willy Gladd thing was sucky.
Don't do it again.

As a first commentary, I did not do the "Willy Glad" piece. No one knows who did. But the worker bee is ever on guard. Even when its wrong. IN this case--wrong.

I did not write that piece. As far as I can tell, no one knows who wrote the piece. I can't write in that style. But, as we move forward on this little history hunt, let's see what turns up.

If you're visiting for the first time, please add your commentary. I'll be referencing this post for some time as a point of departure on the tribal effect here. I'm an art historian, and interested in tribal patterns of dominance.

So, workerbee, guess we've come to some meeting on of the minds here. I don't want to accused for what I didn't do, just for what I did? Thanks.
