WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE MEDIA?

I have come to the conclusion that the only stories that seem to matter are those which the media 'chooses' to cover. I emphasize the word 'chooses' because that is exactly what the media does. They pick what becomes the hottest stories. Basically, they make the news.
Just look at how the media has chosen to ignore the huge bombshell story about the Pentagon propoganda scandal.  The fact that the US government was putting forth military leaders with false or misleading information (propoganda) to sell the war to the American people is a huge story for the media to pick up on! But I haven't heard a word about it on TV! Why?

Maybe if the media scrutinized Bush the way they have scrutinized Obama and his ties to Wright, we would have never invaded Iraq in the first place. But the media has been very lenient on the Bush administration since day number one. Why?
Politics isn't a fair game. We already know that. But when it comes to religion, it is a complete joke.
I haven't been able to put on a news channel in the last month without hearing Obama and Wright every five minutes! What is the problem with this? The problem is that John McCain has close ties to a preacher with just as many controversial beliefs and statements. Pastor John Hagee has said that Catholics are the 'Mother Whore' and a 'cult.' He had this to say about Hurricane Katrina, "All hurricanes are acts of God, because God controls the heavens. I believe that New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God, and they are -- were recipients of the judgment of God for that. The newspaper carried the story in our local area that was not carried nationally that there was to be a homosexual parade there on the Monday that the Katrina came. And the promise of that parade was that it was going to reach a level of sexuality never demonstrated before in any of the other Gay Pride parades. So I believe that the judgment of God is a very real thing. I know that there are people who demur from that, but I believe that the Bible teaches that when you violate the law of God, that God brings punishment sometimes before the day of judgment. And I believe that the Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans."
I could go on and on with quotes from Pastor Hagee that are just as controversial as Wright's. But I think you get the point.
The most shocking part of all of this is that Pastor Hagee says that John McCain sought his endorsement. Obama is getting pounded for not putting enough space between he and Wright, yet McCain went after Hagee for his endorsement!

It's due to their liberal slant. Just ask O'Reilly.

Of course the media has to choose which stories to cover. It's just that the criteria used for choosing stories these days are, well, pretty tabloid-level.

Just look at how the media has chosen to ignore the huge bombshell story about the Pentagon propoganda scandal.

I can't figure out any way that the TV news outlets could cover this without admitting that they failed the public miserably -- which is why they're not covering it. The best story I saw on this was on PBS News Hour, which covered it in-depth and did discuss their own use of military experts: they named both of them and showed that neither one was involved in the Pentagon briefings during the short time News Hour used them as expert commentators. So the minimal use of these guys could be the only reason News Hour covered this at all, but I don't think so. Only News Hour would have taken itself to task for being hoodwinked. I never expected any of the big nets like CNN, NBC, MSNBC, etc. to cover this at all because they had these guys on the air all the time, contradicting their own reporters in the field in Iraq! It's beyond me how CNN could continue to put their military experts on when they had the wonderful John Burns and Michael Ware doing real eyewitness reporting that was completely at odds with what the brass-on-chest talking heads were saying!

As to why the media isn't covering the Hagee endorsement of McCain in the same way they've pounded on Rev. Wright is because the two stories are different. Let's be blunt: Hagee is a white minister, and that's all that needs to be said. Seriously. That's all that needs to be said about that and the lack of media coverage.

In conclusion, I agree with you. This is so f'd up, but it is what it is: corporate media, and we have Bill Clinton to thank for that, as it was his administration that allowed all the mergers to happen. I think it's one of the first things that a new administration should take steps toward fixing. Break up the big corporations. They are not in the public interest, especially Big Media.

But who watches PBS? -_-

But who watches PBS?

Uh, you and I? That's exactly the point is that the best stuff is on PBS, where only us "liberal elites" will see it.

Exactly. We need to drag people kicking and screaming to PBS! XD

--Let's be blunt: Hagee is a white minister, and that's all that needs to be said. Seriously.

This is such an indisputable and disturbing fact that it may one day make it to textbooks, and I hope those involved in the propagating (largely the media) of this reality one day come to be as ashamed for their contribution as repentant segregationists.

I am strongly beginning to wonder if America is ready for a black President and I am devastated to admit we may not be. That college educated media types are willing to trade racism for ratings is a sad commentary on who we are, and where we are headed.

Believe it or not, in the middle of all this hoopla, I still feel that America is indeed ready for a black president. The proof is the Obama campaign. Its very existence, what it has weathered, how it has weathered it all. No one ever said it would be easy, least of all Obama. He has always reminded us that change is difficult, that the status quo will fight against change with everything it's got. No, I disagree, even with all that's going on, I still think the country really is ready now for a black president.

Nothing is going on with the media. Their mission is to make money, and that's what they're doing. Yes, it's seriously screwed up.

It's called capitalism, why do you hate America?

Oh Sanjay -- where have you been? The question is not why do you hate America, but rather: Does your pastor love America as much as you do? Only when you can answer that can you truly find enlightenment. Or something.

Sorry, I should have been more thurough and asked "Where is your flag pin?" as well.

Does your pastor love his flag pin as much as he loves his own flag pin?

Damn, I blew it. Does your pastor love your flag pin as much as he loves his ... own ...

ah crap.

I don't hate America. I love my country. As I am sure all of us 'unpatriotic'(that is what republicans prefer to call liberals-it's easier that way. they don't have to actually explain anything) liberals do.
I understand that it is all about capitalism. The media is all about money. How can we get the most bang for the buck?
It shouldn't be about money, though.

Sorry Dr. Sanjay Gupta. I misunderstood what you were saying, so disregard my other comment about loving and hating America...my bad!

I think that Obama's candidacy is showing us that America is less racist than many black Americans had feared, and more racist than many white Americans had hoped.

That's an interesting point.

It's a very good point!
