Why Can't Senator Obama...

... close the deal with racists? Is he not reaching them? Not connecting with them in some way?

Hello, a black man can never win over a real racist. The point is no matter how racist a state or a certain constituent claims to be, Obama was able to garner at least a portion of the votes. In my eyes, there is hope for America. There is hope that we are not all as racist as some would have us believe. One would expect places like KY and WV to go 80 or 90% for the white woman over the black man and that didn't happen! I am sorry for those who take offense to KY and WV being labeled as racist, but a large number of those folks admitted on tv that race was a strong determining factor for them. What about those who were afraid to admit it??? Let me ask you this-how much better would you expect him to do if he was going up against the Klan? Considering the odds, he did pretty well. He needs to maintain that 25-30% that he was able to "cling" to and pray that he can convert enough of the skeptics in those swing states to make a difference.

Judging from the turnout in KY yesterday, I doubt Clinton would have carried the state in November.

A large number of voters didn't admit to anything.
If anything you had a few anecdotes, which means nothing.

Cher, Yeah I know. That was my point. The pundits (or some of them) kept saying last night: "Why can't Obama connect with rural, uneducated, poor and working class whites?" And I thought it would be instructive to rephrase the question as: "Why can't Obama connect with racists?"

The answer becomes a little more self-evident that way, doesn't it?
