Words I Never Want to Hear Again

In the uproar over Sen. Clinton's ill-advised use of the a-word, I got to thinking about the many tired words and phrases that have become the victims of overkill this campaign season. So I decided to start a list of the ones that, come November, I hope never to hear again in my lifetime:

* "Under the bus"
* "-gate" (in describing a scandal or gaffe: Bittergate,
    Snipergate, et al)
* Gaffe
* Disenfranchise(d)
* "My friends"
* Nuance(d)
* Reagan Democrat
* Working-class (with the unspoken implication that what the
   speaker really means is white working class)

Feel free to add the ones that really get under your skin . . .

"I'm sorry if I offended you."

"Some might say..."
"I'm just say'in'...."
"Take a listen....."
"You know? ______,you know, ________,you know"
"Let me tell ya..."
"But I'll tell ya sum'n......"
"I'm a fighter...."
"I'm not a quitter....."

wwstaebler: "Some might say..." That's the one I've been getting very sick of wwstaebler.

Hillary Clinton.

(yeah, I know, fat chance)

I agree most whole-heartedly with "-gate". I think it was Al Franken, or maybe Olbermann who pointed out, "who gets to decide what does and doesn't deserve a '-gate'?"

Damn, you beat me to this topic! I was just thinking about doing it earlier...

My biggest one (after "throw [insert close associate] under the bus" which has been mentioned) is...

"vetted"*

* The only allowed use of this term will be in reference to driving a certain American sports car, as in "I vetted over to Whole Foods to pick up some fresh arugula."

LOL, thanks for digging that up! There are some great ones there...

Yeah, I totally missed that post. "Race card" and "kneecap" are two more biggies on my list.

Day one; commander in chief threshold; cult (as applied to a large and eclectic political group that shows any measure of enthusiasm); "Bill Clinton"

"On-going investigation" certainly must be feeling lonely now-days.

My take is that no one in the MSM is asking the right questions if we have not heard that little jewel lately. It’s kind of like the litmus test in gauging whether an issue is really worth pursuing. “On-going investigation” should be the red flag extraordinaire.

I wonder how many times that phrase was used in the last 7 years?

Superdelegate!
