Dammit, why won't the whole thing ever post the first time?
You can't hear me but right now I'm screaming at my computer screen.
People in power have been using the divide and conquer strategy for, um let's see, FOREVER. And we fall for it. Over and over and over and over and over. Sometimes, they don’t even have to do anything. We’ll start the fight ourselves.
Why talk about the fact that CEOs are making 400 times what their employees make when we can yell about two idiots who told an accomplished woman to iron their shirts.
Why talk about the fact that millions of Americans live without health insurance or access to affordable health care when we can debate whether a sock monkey or a nutcracker is more offensive?
Why talk about the fact that we’ve screwed up a planet that appears to be fighting back with a vengeance when we can compare Fox News to CNN to MSNBC in a quest to decide which network is the most inane?
Why talk about the fact that men AND women of all colors are dying in Iraq in a war that the majority of the American public and its leaders were duped into supporting when we can argue about whether racism or sexism is a bigger blight on humanity?
Am I saying that it’s not important to fight oppression and injustice? No. It’s damn important.
But that’s not what’s happening here. Here we are fighting over which form of oppression is worse. And it’s fucking ridiculous.
Guess what kids: sexism and racism both suck. One is not worse than the other. Nor is either worse than homophobia, ableism, classism, ageism or anti-Semitism.. They are all designed to belittle and deny rights to one group or another based on superficial characteristics.
Arguments about all forms of oppression push our buttons. The media knows this. That’s why they throw gasoline on the fire. Nothing is better for ratings than a bunch of riled up viewers.
Elected officials go one step further and throw grenades on the fire because they know the best way to reduce public scrutiny of their leadership is to keep us occupied arguing with each other.
We have work to do to put this country back on the right track and instead we are playing right into the hands of the power structure by rehashing ad nauseam instances of oppression in a primary fight that is over.
Please don’t be drawn into pointless arguments. We can’t change the past. But we can fix the future. It’s time to get to work.
Excellent rant. Needed to be said.
Works for me.
Oh, a little tip. Cut and paste your post into a word file or something. Then when it fails the first time, you can paste it back in. Happens to me all the time. Live and learn. :)
FWIW, I think your one-sentence post added to the impact of the worthy rant that followed.

Sure do. Hey! Have you heard? The Clintons are racists.
There's the divided, and the conquered, and then there's the just plain annoying.
