MoveOn & other progressives: stop bashing Scott McClellan
Friends have been buzzing about MoveOn's take on Scott McClellan's tell-all about his White House years. "McClellan shouldn't profit off the role he played in our nation's largest foreign-policy blunder," says MoveOn, pushing for the former press secretary to donate his profits to war veterans.
I believe this is a misguided campaign. Why not, instead, demand that all the war profiteers in Iraq donate their profits?
I'm not going to call McClellan names or question his right to make money from his story. I believe that MoveOn and others do us a disservice with this campaign. Book profit is tiny compared to the billions in profits that have been or still will be made by all the people who have stayed loyal Bushies and will profit from their doing so. It's also beside the point when an insider is showing us how someone nearly took down the United States of America by starting an unnecessary war (probably planning another before leaving office), and generally screwed up everything else in govt.
Nothing is going to change within the Bush administration as a result of this book. Nobody's going to impeach anyone. So -- sooner, later, it doesn't matter when he spoke but that he spoke.
If we, who want the truth to come out, then bash the people whofinally find the courage and/or other motivation to tell the truth, the famously tight-lipped group of loyal Bushies will forever be tight-lipped. We need all the information about what happened. We need to be willing to make it worthwhile to those who break their silence. We need others to follow McClellan's lead and come forward.
So, I praise McClellan for his giving us insights with What Happened. I hope more will do the same. That's what all the people of our country need in order to learn and to heal after this almost 8-year ordeal: insight into what and who got us here and how. Otherwise, we're sure to repeat this.

It's better McClellan speaks up late than that he never speaks up. And I suspect there will be subpoenas resulting from this book, if not immediately, than at some point.
MoveOn reminds me of nothing so much as a perpetually annoyed acquaintance in dire need of a hobby.

I agree. What motivation will anyone have to speak up if he, or she, is not only bashed by the White House, but also by organizations against their policies. Bad move, MoveOn.

Along with all the truth getting aired by his book, McClellan's bravery may have also helped prevent an attack on Iran for political gain between now and November. As he suggested, people should and will "take Bush's bluster on Iran seriously, and be VERY skeptical" (paraphrased).

I think you're wrong here.
Bashing Scott McClellan is both a fun and healthy way to spend your day.
Scott McClellan sucks.

Scott McClellan in an interview this morning with Russert after giving all this negative information, the President made a decision on the Iraq war and everthing became about pushing for that objective, there would be no back slide from that, because well, he made a decision. Put that in perspective, the president made a decision of war, (PEOPLES LIVES) and would not reconsider. That's Scotts take. Later on in the interview he said "I am still a great admirer" of the President.
I feel people, all people should be free to express opinions, so with that said, if I/we find it odd that Scott Would still admire this man, but at the same time in the same interview says he was thinking about the American people when he wrote this book wellllll.....to me something just fishy about that.....
Here is to having hope that people like Bob Dole with their attacking comments to him will take its toll and force him to tell the complete truth. It will be at that time that I will actually feel comfortable in fully beleiving he is who he says he is now. Other than that, just as the republicans are laughing at the Democrats and enjoying this Primary fight...I'm like a spectator at a boxing event, who knows maybe even a Mad Max steel cage match watching them fight over him. Again, hopefully they will push him to tell the 100% complete truth one day, or as John Dean put it, he descovers even more things as time goes on....:)
