SOCKOBAMA SOCK MONKEY IS BACK ON SALE
Apparently David and Elizabeth Lawson, the 'good' people who created this offensive piece of........., well anyway they've found somebody dumb enough to pick up this really really asinine toy. Here's a link to the story at the Salt Lake City Tribune.

And here, God forgive me for posting this, is the link to the new site.

Impossible to tell if it's by the same people.

In fact, I'd say it's not. Whether or not they're pursuing making the toy, the hosting of the new site on googlepages and the registration method for the domain name are markedly different.
I think someone's just trying to stir up trouble.

Could be. But the Lawsons new statements that they want to continue with production is disturbing......

Order TheSockMcCain™ before he gets booted from the race by the GOP at the convention. Total collectors item of this terrific flame-out.

The SockMcCain doesn't have a tail...

Apparently they are taking orders without a manufacturing contract. Let's see how that goes. The previous manufacture was bommbarded after making the prototype and concluded any future involvement.
So, the reason that they pulled from this is not because of their true conversion of it's slight on race shown in their "Did I do that?" irresponsibility.
Any manufacture that wants to take on the responsibility will have to give a lot of thought to the real financial risks.

Yeah. They may have a bit of trouble finding a company willing to participate in making this offensive piece of sh*t.
In case you're interested, here's the very nice, classy notice posted on the website of Binkley Custom Products: http://customplushtoys.com/sock.shtml

Lovely. I want to buy a Salt Lake City sockmonkey.
Is there a white-bread, prejudiced and determined Salt Lake City monkey I can buy, that looks like the makers of this new toy?
And does it have a tail?

How about a sock puppet designed to resemble this particular white bread, pasty, racist, Salt Lake City-area Utah State Senator, Chris Buttars.
Maybe a cute little plush hog dressed in a Klan robe and pointy hat?
Coincidence: this guy lives in the same town as David and Elizabeth Lawson, the SockObama couple.
Interesting Note: David J. Lawson contributed $2,300 in Q1 of 2007 to failed Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

Naw. On second thought -- that felt icky.
Let's not sink to that kind of low-down ugliness.

Ewww, I feel physically ill! I sent them this:
Your 'toy' and your decision to continue its distribution is an appalling example of some of the worst aspects of American culture. I am among the many people who were offended by the first offering that was a racist depiction of an admirable person who is the Democratic presidential candidate. I wrote politely to Binkley Toys asking that they reconsider their decision to manufacture this toy and was gratified by Mr. Bishop's integrity and his ability to recognize the ethical problems posed by this item.
Mind you, I have no problem with sock monkeys. Sock monkeys portraying the first African-American presidential candidate are not acceptable. It does not matter how many Websites compare George Bush to a chimpanzee (not a monkey, by the way, a different species altogether). George Bush is a white man. The comparison does not play into the decades of racist denigration of an entire population as equal to monkeys.
Since you've moved to a new domain and seem to think that by offering a white version of the political sock monkey you've solved the problem, I do not expect this complaint to have any impact on your mindset. Clearly, you do not care about the cultural bias you are promoting, you are just out to make a buck. There are better ways to do that.
Shame, shame, shame!
and got this in response:
Thank you for your email. We have been inundated with many positive and negative emails and we are not able to reply to all of them individually. Negative and Positive emails will be added to a new comments page by tomorrow. If this is a media inquiry we will get back to you within a day.
SockPoliticians.com is still selling both Obama and McCain sock dolls. We never intended this to become an issue of race or to denigrate Barack Obama, John McCain or any other political candidate. Although we have received strong condemnation for our product we will continue
to produce and sell these to the public at SockPoliticians.com.
Thank you for your support!

It would appear some people have a serious problem with a sock-monkey Obama, but none whatsoever with a sock-money McCain or endless depictions of GWB as a chimp.
If it appeared anywhere else, I would assume that the following paragraph from the above posting was nothing more than a heavyhanded attempt at satire:
But no, it appears the writer is being perfectly serious. Perfectly serious, yes. Because, you see, a chimp is very different from a monkey.

Alas, the quoted paragraph got deleted. It was:
Mind you, I have no problem with sock monkeys. Sock monkeys portraying the first African-American presidential candidate are not acceptable. It does not matter how many Websites compare George Bush to a chimpanzee (not a monkey, by the way, a different species altogether). George Bush is a white man. The comparison does not play into the decades of racist denigration of an entire population as equal to monkeys.
Only now that I've had to reread it a few times, I've decided it really IS meant as satire.
My mistake!
