Something I Would Really Like to Hear Obama Say About Government
"In spite of Republican rhetoric, Democrats are not for "Big" Government. We are for Effective Government. We want a government that works." I think Obama could make a strong case for this in relation to education and services like road work and other infrastructure,. I would like him to also say something like this: "John McCain is not for Smaller Government. He is for Intrusive Government. John McCain would like the government all up in your business, reading your emails, listening to your phone conversations, but when citizens have a legitimate reason to call on their representative government for assistance, John McCain would say, "Sorry, can't help you."
I think a strong case for less intrusive government would help drive a wedge between McCain and the Libertarians. A strong case for more effective government would drive a wedge between McCain and, well, just about everybody else. John McCain's phoniness needs to be called out. My friends, what do you think?

Let me take a step further. Liberals believe in conservation of energy, right? But why don't liberals care as much about conservation of tax dollars? Yes, we spend a lot on the military. But do we REALLY need 150 government programs all related to job retraining? Why couldn't ten do the trick? Or three?
I live in a very wealthy and liberal suburb of Cleveland. NPR listeners, Volvos, BMWs and Mercedes drivers (except for the old Blacks and Jews, who bothe like Cadillacs and Lincolns). Still have Obama signs in their yards (three months after the primary). But do these people have sattalite dishes? No, because they are too expensive and wasteful. Likewise, much of the government spending pisses me off. And I wonder why liberals (which I am not) don't get pissed off at the debt and the overspending.
I have said all along: if Obama's writes a DNC platform that calls for balancing the budget FASTER than the 2012 plan now on the table, and calls for doing it by cutting overall spending 5% per year by eliminating programs that are duplicative or that simply are not a high enough priority, there would be no need to have an election in November. Why is wasteful government spending NOT a liberal priority? I just don't get it!

Why don't you think liberals care about balancing the budget? We care a lot. In fact, the only President in the last thirty years who's managed to do it was a Democrat.
What (many) liberals want is a massive decrease in defense spending. The idea would then be, domestic spending could be increased and a balanced budget still maintained.
Wouldn't you like the bridges near you not to collapse? Increased domestic spending.
