Computer Illiterate: Seriously Who Cares?
John McCain, while on camera admitted to being an "illiterate," reliant on his wife for assistance using a computer here.
Obviously embarrassed for seeming so out of touch with everyday citizens while fielding follow-up questions, campaign aides insisted Sen. McCain, had heard of the internet here!
I initially ignored this as trivial compared to the issues at hand. Who cares if he can use a computer or access the internet?
Then I realized how completely simple it is. Seriously, you can't use a computer?

It doesn't bother me that he does not possess mad computer skills. What bothers me is that he seems to lack curiosity about appliances and pipelines that are the backbone of the modern world.
It should also be concerning that he has taken so long to learn how to use the internet. His lengthy learning curve makes me question his mental acumen.

Seriously, no snark intended, McCain is not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree! It's as if, like the perverbial dim bulb, his light is flickering. On, off, on, off - until..... Now that's what scares me.

Pangaea, you're right about lack of curiosity. It signifies intellectual laziness and satisfaction with what he already knows, and that's the last thing I want in a president.
I want the president to be the smartest, most intellectually active, and most competent person in the country, if possible. I don't care so much if he or she's likable, except that people who have compassion are generally people that other people want to be around. And I want true compassion, not false sympathy.
I want someone in control of his or her temper, so much so that he or she can demonstrate felt anger on cue, when it can do the most good. This doesn't make the president a phony but means that he or she is so in tune with and comfortable with him or herself that emotions are genuine but don't rule actions.
Of course, to want to be president and get far enough to be in the running means that there's a lot of ego there, but this kind of ego is based on self-confidence, not self-aggrandizement, self-satisfaction, or self-righteousness.
I haven't seen any of these qualities in McCain. And if he truly believes his latest claim about being the one who can win a war—because of his experience—he's self-delusional as well.

Oh, and McCain's also been talking a lot about Czechoslovakia recently. Uh huh. Good time warp there, Johnny. Planning on taking a trip to Rhodesia while you're thinking about world geography? Or maybe Abyssinia would be more your speed.

Not being able to use a computer is a bit of a concern because the entire U.S. government is on computers.
Face it "my friends" he didn't graduate from the Naval Academy fifth from the bottom out of a class of 899 for no reason. This is not a bright shining light we're dealing with here. Guys fifth from the bottom aren't usually accepted into flight school, but as the son and grandson of admirals, McCain was. Did you know that he crashed a total of five planes?
#1) During training he crashed one into Corpus Christie Bay. He still graduated. #2) Flew so low over the Iberian peninsula that he hit the utility power lines. Didn't get in trouble. Was made Flight Instructor at McCain Airfield (named after grandpa). #3) Crashed a U.S. that he had taken to fly himself to an Army Navy out of state game. Didn't get in trouble. Wonder how much that game cost us taxpayers? Me too. #4) An accidental missile release hit his plane on board his carrier. #5) Shot down in North Viet Nam. McCain was actually involved in fighting the Viet Nam war for about 8 months between the spring of 1967 and October of that same year. He was a POW for five and a half years.
