Contemplating the contours

It’s been another one of those days on the campaign trail.

Accusations of flip-flopping. FISA fanaticism. The Obama girls go teevee tabloid. Ads that charge and countercharge.

This just in: John McCain is old and Barack Obama is black.

Film at 11.

**Sigh.***

No thanks.

I’d rather sneak off to some corner of the room and contemplate the contours of the wall for a while. Charge up for tomorrow’s action, sure to include some nuanced version of today’s.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m as much of a political junkie as anyone here. That’s why I’m here. But when the evening gets warped with time and alcohol, then it’s time to contemplate the contours. To listen to a few tunes and float off into a world where there are no politics and every day is a Bobby McFerrin ditty. Where the wind blows Dylan and, sometimes, cries Mary. Where the air that I breathe is all that I need --- and it smells like teen spirit.

So, bring your reflections on the day, your reflections on life, your tunes, your beverages, your herbal concoctions, and join me and Lou right here:

We’ll be waiting.

If Lou's in, I'm in. Got Dirty Blvd?

Thanks for the flavor, Cowboy, you know it's my favorite.

Anytime, girl.

Glad you're here.

"Somehow I know he's always with me...He the unseen genius..."

The Phantom is singing tonight, reminding me of the songs in my head.

Good to see 'ya.

Theatre buff?

Insolent boy!

This slave of fashion basking in your glory!

Just a prima dona, I guess. But think of how they all adore you!

I had a simply perfect long weekend in New York years ago for the single purpose of seeing it on Broadway. Only show I've ever seen...fabulous memory.

Caught it in Atlanta. Only opera I've seen live other than "Porgy and Bess", which I saw at the Kennedy Center in DC in 1977.

Both shows were GREAT, though, I must say, P&B left a bigger impression on what was then a 16-year-old Alabama country boy!

No more talk of darkness, forget these wide-eyed fears...

Promise me that all you say is true, that's all I ask of you.

I remember "Porgy and Bess" as a child, why? Was there a made-for-TV movie? I remember the songs... the faces... "Old Man River"... am I mixing memories again? Sighhhhh, happens so soften.

Was going to correct, but somehow "soften" works for me. ;)

"Soften" did sorta work, huh?!?

Only you would think so.

Do I dare ask exactly what's meant by that? ;-)

Guess not.

No worries!

I must go to bedders now. Got a fairly important meeting need to be sorta wiffit for tomorrow.

Enjoyed it and I hope to see you --- and y'all --- tomorrow night!

Only the sweetest of things Cowboy. And only the best. Goodnight.

You remember correctly. "Old Man River" was from "Porgy and Bess."

And all that I say is completely true!

;-)

(Moved this up here after I mistakenly posted it below.)

Oh!

And, since I mentioned it, I must add this:

In loving memory of the late Mr. Cobain.

Still miss Kurt. Put on Teen Spirit or Unplugged, and I'm gone. The fact that they got the title "Nevermind" and a lot of their style from my 8O's heroes, Westerberg & the Replacements, just cemented it. This one does it for me, when I'm not too angry, not too lonesome, late at night. "I Can't Hardly Wait."

"Jesus rides beside me, he never buys any smokes."

Yep.

That video seems, in a certain way, soooo long ago. But, yet, it's still somehow fresh to me.

"Nevermind" is and forever will be a classic!

Well, shit. I wish I'd read this before I started my own meta post right after yours.

Talk about timing.

xoxo, Aubie, I luvs you.

Maybe it's to do with the hat?

Well, there's someone's hat that you've been after (Can't remember who off-hand).

Can't have mine!!

;-)

Ladies and gentlemen ... live from Telluride, Colorado ... please welcome ...

Nice one. Didn't know them. Cool. I'll turn 'em up Friday Night.

Thanks A84.

You remember correctly. "Old Man River" was from "Porgy and Bess."

And all that I say is completely true!
