If you are still mad at Obama for FISA , Here's Your Chance To Take Constructive Action

We have a Bush Dog Congressman from Georga, John Barrow, who is facing a primary challenge from Regina Thomas, a State Senator. Barrow was endorsed by Obama the same day that the House voted for the passage of FISA. Barrow joined with the Republicans on this issue.

We have a choice of a better alternative in Thomas who is actually closer on the issues to Obama. So you can donate to her and take out your anger on Barack. By doing that you can do something constructive while at the same time not hurting our chances for a Democratic White House. I am all for a unified party in the fall, but this is our chance where we can get rid of someone who does not represent their constituents.

It's a clever idea to raise some more money right? The primary is a week from Tuesday and any bit you can give will help her in a primary where 70% of the voters could be African Americans and she definitely has a shot.

Amusing. For all the people who asked Hillary supporters how we could be so disrespectful of our candidate to not support obama when she has endorsed him and asked us to support him, all I can say is: How can you be so disrespectful of your candidate when he has endorsed Barrow and asked you to support him?

I can't support Bush Dog Barrow. I don't care what Obama says. There is a big difference here.

Rec'd, and just sent her $25. Regina Thomas is a great candidate, and shame on Saint Barack for backing the disgusting reactionary Barrow.

Here's another ActBlue page where you can contribute to Thomas as well as to a number of other Aggressive Progressives. The numbers on that page are much more encouraging -- she raised over $25K there.

Thanks for highlighting this, and let's put our money (literally) where our mouths are.

Thanks for the rec. I wish you would have donated through my page though.

Sorry. Didn't realize until after donating that it was actually your page. The title "Progressive Electorate" on both should have given me a clue but I wasn't paying enough attention :(

Serious question: Does it matter which page gets (or, more correctly, raises) the money? (Serious in part because I'm truly curious, and in part because if I can swing the cash I just might donate again on your page.)

Kind of sort of. It all goes to the candidate so they determine how they spend the money ultimately.

Just helps us raise awareness so that we can raise more. Some of our donors will give once we start getting the money up. We told Regina personally we would try and raise as much money as possible so if you can we would appreciate it.

However, on our pages we ask for matches and do different contests, promotions to get folks to give so it makes a difference for us.

That would then make Obama a Bush Dog "presumptive" nominee. The delegates and super delegates have not offically voted - I HOPE they CHANGE. pumapac*

Just donated $20
We need to get rid of the bad Dems now that we are on our way to having a stronger majority.
My neighboring Congressional district just got rid of Al Wynn -- replaced by the very excellent Donna Edwards. So we can do this.

Thanks. Pass the word.

So, promoting a more progressive challenger who doesn't stand a chance against the republican in November is somehow a winning strategy for democrats? Lose seats in the interests of making a point?

Further, the DNC typically supports the incumbent. Not saying it is right, but it is tradition.

The political environment doesn't exist right now to expect some grand progressive uprising in red states. Many red states may go to Barack, but certain districts are still highly gerrymandered and will need years to get on track. That's not a betrayal - that is reality.

Thomas would win in November. This is a D+3 district. This is not Chet Edwards on Nick Lampson's or Gene Taylor's district we are talking about. Barrow has not voted in the best interest of his constituents on the war.

Barrow was a much more progressive politician early on in his career as a commissioner in Athens-Clarke County. He had to move from his hometown because this district was redrawn.

I'm not for going after every Blue Dog. I do believe that this one should be gone. Also, he has introduced essentially no real legislation

Fair enough. I am hopeful that once we change the leadership at the top that the ones below will step into line. This country has been certifiably insane for going on 40 years, so changing the national narrative might take some time.

I whole-heartedly encourage people to make their voice heard in these primaries. As far as Blue Dogs (Bush Dogs?) I say go for it, but you will have to live with some of them who win their primaries. And we are a big tent so we can.

There are some parts of the country where your Donna Edwards types don't have a chance. At the end of the day, we are a democracy, so either you move the voters or we have to live with the will of the people.

It is a convenient myth that if we just get rid of some bad apples in Congress everything will be swell. It all starts at the grassroots with voters.

My two cents.
