Possible reponses to the "Celebrity" smear
(Disclaimer: I am not a committed Democrat but I do hate smear tactics.)
1) "John McCain continues to dishonor himself and dishonor his past promises to run a substantive campaign. John needs to apologize; not to me, but to the American people, for wasting their time talking about nothing substantive. John needs to apologize to his supporters for letting them down, spending their money conducting the same old smear campaign.
Increasingly, John McCain's campaign represents the worst of our electoral system. John cannot have it both ways. If he is serious about running a substantive campaign, he should condemn the false and malicious ads aired with his name on them, and take responsibility for the tone and message of his campagn. If he does not do this, he will have shown us that he prefers not to run a campaign consistent with America's highest ideals."
2) "John McCain constantly insists that he is not the continuation of George Bush, but his campaign betrays him. His smear techniques and tone echo the worst of what our country has seen over the last eight years. Real problems deserve real discussion, not million dollar ad buys talking about Paris Hilton. Americans are hungry for a change and can sense that if our electoral system continues to fail us, then Washington will continue to fail us. I will continue to work tirelessly to change the tone in Washington."
3) "Our campaign will continue to talk about energy prices, the mortgage crisis, and the need for new economic stimulus America. If John McCain wants to continue shooting himself in the foot spending millions and millions of dollars talking about Paris Hilton, he's only making the substantive contrast between us clearer."

The Obama campaign is doing just fine on its owen, thank you.
