« New Yorker: `Making It` - the actual article | Fran's Blog | Brown plans to withdraw troops as he backs Obama over 'war on terror' »
This year, can we prove Karl Rove wrong?
Recently in the WSJ he argued
`Democrats don't have the same large volunteer pool the GOP does with its Federated GOP Women, College and Young Republicans, and local party committees. In the primaries, Mr. Obama instead moved hordes of volunteers from state to state. It was a brilliant tactic, but Nov. 4 is different. The volunteers adequate for primaries held over five months will simply not be enough to compete in 51 separate elections (all 50 states plus the District of Columbia) all on one day.`
Now check out what Obama's doing: the title's misleading - the diary covers a lot mroe ground than just Colorado.

Rove's lying to buck up morale, see non-partisan analyst Charlie Cook's recent piece @

And I should add that Charlie is being very careful with his words there because he hurt his excellent record earlier this year by counting McCain out of the primary when he was out of money. But it's clear that he's hearing really bad complaints from GOP sources that he trusts. Rove could currently be trying to turn that around, who knows....

Hey Fran,
Spearshaker here, AKA Gary...
I would say, please don't worry your pretty little head. The 2006 midterms proved what a watershed moment this is in American politics. Prior to that election, I was not alone in my growing cynicism, what with Bush v Gore in 2000, and then Ohio in 2004. For the first time in my life, I had begun to think the whole system was rigged. Those bastards are prepared to do anything to hold on to power. So imagine my surprise. We actually won. As Steven R. pointed on Daily Kos, there is a groundswell that will make 2006 look like peanuts. Honestly, I have not felt this sort of enthusiasm in American politics since '68, with McCarthy and Bobby Kennedy inspiring a younger generation. Anyway, we're doing all we can here, up/over.
Oh, and let me know what you think of Hofstadter when you get your hands on it.
My best,
S/G
