Why not to Support Cynthia McKinney; Please Ignore Her

I should not even have to write this diary. However, I'm a little concerned that with the FISA issue and the appearance of Obama moving to the middle that this would encourage some to look at the Green Party Candidate. In fact, I read a diary a few minutes ago in support of McKinney.

1. Even if McKinney did not make anti-semetic remarks her supporters including her father did. Billy McKinney said on air that the reason she lost was "That ain't nothin'. Jews have bought everybody. Jews. J. E. W. S." . Her father has made several anti-semetic remarks. Just google Billy McKinney and some variation of anti-semetic.

2. Certainly McKinney has been an activist for important progressive ideas such as being an early opponent of the war and the Bush administration. She has shown success in  human rights activism and Hurricane Katrina activism. However, that activism seems more suited for outside of elective politics because she is very divisive and not a unifier.

3. The Capitol Hill Police Incident - McKinney struck a Capitol Hill officer with a closed fist. McKinney was mad because the cop did not recognize her and she was not wearing her member pin.

4. CBS affiliate Television Station caught her calling a staffer a fool.  Enough said on that.

5. Cynthia McKinney hurt Gore in 2000 by saying that "Gore's negro tolerance has never been too high".

The moral of the story: Please do not be swayed by anythng that McKinney says in relation to this election.

All of this seems irrelevant to me. The only argument needed surely is that every vote for her, as for Nader, is effectively putting John McCain one vote nearer the White House.

If Nader and McKinney receive enough votes to put McCain in the White House, the Democrats will have to look in the mirror to understand what happened. The American people voted against the Republicans in 2006 because they were sick of the war and wanted to keep our civil liberties. The Democrats took control of Congress and did nothing to satisfy the reasons the people put them there. Don't tell me that this is because of razor thin majorities; the Democrats have enough votes to control the purse strings and the people know this. So, Congress has managed to attain lower approval ratings than the least popular President since polling began. If Obama keeps triangulating (e.g., FISA, adjusting his anti-war message), if he keep moving to the right on the crucial issues, he is inviting people to vote for Nader or McCain in disgust. Remember, Obama's message is that he is a different politician, a man of hope. Moving away for the popular peace and civil rights issues is not consistent with his raison d'etre as a candidate. It invites people to seek alternatives such as Nader and McKinney. So, stop complaining about such votes. Votes must be earned, not spurned. If you don't want people to vote for Nader or McKinney, stop providing reasons for them to do so. Obama hasn't earned these votes solely by dint of his being the Democratic nominee.

If you can't tell Obama from Bush and McCain, then you won't mind living in Bush's third term.

I can, and I would.

The chances of Nader and McKinney taking sufficient votes to elect McCain are no better than those of little David posting something intelligent.

WTF is the platform of the Green Party anyway? To fuck up every 3rd national election? Why do they run general election candidates, but I've never heard of them running for Senate/Representative (disclaimer: I don't always give a fuck what do-nothing 3rd parties do)?

Thanks for the post. Here's a spelling tip (not to be an ass, just trying to help). It's "semitic," not "semetic," and the easy way to remember is just to remember the noun. "Semite" probably makes more sense than "Semete."

yeah you can't edit these diaries. thanks for the tip.
