Maybe he's reading it with the glasses off, iPod on and eyes closed. Because he doesn't seem to be getting what people are telling him about taking on McCain.

Couldn't he just close his eyes and accomplish the same thing?

He's made it pretty clear over the last two years that the advice of people in the throes of a full-on panic attack is not of much interest to him.
Not counting you in that class of advice givers, but ya gotta admit that you had a bit of a cred deficit to work down by the time you joined the team . . .

Great find. It's a lot of fun to think that while we're commented on him, he's listening in on the conversation. Is this Web stuff cool or what -- a direct line to the next Pres?
Hey, if you're reading, Barack, great job so far. We love ya. But it's about time to take off the gloves and counterpunch. McCain isn't being "vetted" by the MSM so we'll need to do it. More surrogates pushing back against McCain's sleazy attacks would be nice.

This is a small and quiet place where people really think and care about the issues. God, I hope this doesn't bring on the onslaught of the infidels and trolls.

If you read this post Mr. Obama - come to Alaska and I promise you'll win our measly 3 electoral votes by a landslide.
State Fair begins August 20th in Palmer - announce your VP selection here (Hagel, Hagel, Hagel) and you'll make big news.
McCain hates us for our oil, our unions, and our independence.

I honestly assume that these websites were provided by campaign staff but even still that's cool for our little community here.
I assume this because they listed sites that McCain uses and we all know that is complete BS!

Going out on a limb and saying he and/or his campaign staff wouldn't dip much into the chaotic chatter in this section, but rather stick more to the main page/TPMCafe.
August 18, 2008 5:06 PM | Reply | Permalink
Probably right on that last point.
But both the blogs and the main pages are a magnitude greater in terms of political savvy and intelligence than most of what else is out there.

It said he reads Talking Points Memo, not TPM Cafe.
August 18, 2008 5:20 PM | Reply | Permalink
Exactly, Dan K, he reads Josh Marshall, and he has every reason to.

Yes he does. He's much too old to suck his thumb when he's upset.

I tell people I pick up a lot of stuff at Talking Points Memo or TPM, but mostly stay in the TPM Cafe. I doubt someone would distinguish between the two when naming sites they enjoy.
I also doubt an intelligent man like Obama would completely ignore the most relevant section of this site, at least with regards to his target audience.
If he is coming to TPM, he at least looks at the Recommended list to see what people are saying, though I doubt he spends too much time at any site given his schedule.

Maynard: He must have died while carving it.
Lancelot: [incredulous] Oh, come on!
Maynard: Well that's what it says.
Arthur: Look, if he was dying, he wouldn't bother to carve 'Aaaaarrrgh'. He'd just say it!
Galahad: Perhaps he was dictating.

Please Barack, if your are reading this, find a way to use something like this as a campaign ad. It grabs people and makes them realize just how important this election is.

Honestly, and not to burst bubbles or anything, but he's almost certainly talking about the front page, not the comments, maybe not even the EC main feed. A presidential candidate has neither time nor inclination to read endless iterations of anonymous partisans with no verifiable credentials telling him what his campaign strategy should be.

Hey even if he is reading Election central We comment there and you can't help but notice the blog titles on the side... I found them.
But perhaps it's the same reason we started seeing more McCain supporters commenting here. I just wish they would engage in something intelligent isntead of just writing crap to get favor with McCain.

Hey for anyone interested I just clicked on the 'get your free Obama button' ad from Moveon.org between this post and the comments.
They are giving them away free or selling them in bigger batches. I just bought a bunch and thought I would give them to my 22 year old daughter to give away. I was thinking of adding a business card size note with Senator Obama's website and a note saying that the upcoming election in November is important and will affect your future, most of the country doesn't think you will show up and vote... i dare you to prove them wrong. Most of her friends love me, 'I'm the cool mom' so I think it would go over well coming from me.
They have already sold or given away around 1,500,000 buttons.

I'd bet he's got some smart staffers who direct him to pertinent posts and comments, and that when he references TPM he means the entire family of blogs that are lined-up at the top of the page.
Careful, Josh, people are starting to consider you reliable, trustworthy, a truly fair and balanced journalist. With a reputation like that, it won't be long until someone calls you the Walter Cronkite of the blogs...

Well, he posted one or two diaries on DKos, back in the day. But the Kossacks weren't very nice to him, so he didn't come back.

Wait until the news of the Obama/Biden cave-in on Georgia sinks in. $1 billion dollars and a complete rip-off of McCain's idea.

They'll probably go crazy. Our Obamanauts won't though. This is a much more stable crowd. Apparently you also noticed that the man Josh Marshall thinks should be making foreign policy decisions for the US agrees completely with McCain. No evidence Georgia started it. Russia has to be punished. Tons of money for Georgian "relief," which the Russians will understand includes stinger missiles. Biden is a good man, but he probably shouldn't have run over to Georgia just to endorse the McCain Plan.
