For the Love of All That's Holy Don't Do These Three Things

1) Don't say Sarah Palin's fifth child is actually her daughters.  It's an unsubstantiated rumor likely to make any mother angry and rally more people to McCain.  Above all, it looks like we don't have a legitimate case to make against her.  We do. 2) Don't talk about how hot Sarah Palin is.  It makes us look sexist and trivial.  It reinforces the idea that Palin can get by as an image projected by the GOP.
3)Don't criticize her for knowing nothing about foreign policy until she proves that she doesn't.  The last thing we need is to look foolish when Palin can speak fluently on national security issues.  She may be able to.
Having bludgeoned Obama with the celebrity sticker McCain has just gone out and got himself one.  We don't need to strengthen his hand by appearing petty and demeaning.

Wow, andrew. Beat me by, like, 30 seconds. Rec'd.

I thoroughly agree, but have you seen what's going on in the rest of the blogasphere? They're going nuts on the daughter/baby issue. This one is out of the barn and I hate it, because, as a mother, I can't see how there's any way that outing this tragedy helps our cause? And, no, I'm not assuming the story is true, but if it is and the girl winds up committing suicide because of all of this horrific sliming, it's Barack Obama who's going to pay the price, not the anonymous blog commentators.

Someone posted this link earlier...about half way through the article there are quotes from her dr. about inducing labor, when the baby arrived, etc.

http://www.adn.com/front/story/382864.html

Sounds very much like it IS her baby.

It's being pushed by the usual lunatics at Daily Kos. I'm telling you, some of the posters over there are total wackos...and unfortunately, there are a lot of them.

I completely agree on the first two points, however I think she has already proven she doesn't know much about FP. Of course she'll be getting a crash course in it between now and the VP debate, so no use lowering expectations (as you said), which would allow her to "win" the debate just by not being totally lost.

I think she asserted that she has foreign policy experience because Alaska is close to Russia - but somehow didn't think to mention her pipline project that would run though Canada.

That was a FOX News talking head who said the Russia thing.

RE: Foreign policy... Palin on Iraq:

"The GOP agenda to ramp up domestic supplies of energy is the only way that we're going to become energy independent, the only way that we are going to become a more secure nation — and I say this, of course, looking at the situation we are in right now, at war, not knowing what the plan is to ever end the war that we're engaged in, understanding that Americans are seeking solutions, and they are seeking resolution in this war effort, so energy supplies, being able to produce and supply domestically, is going to be a big part of that.

...I have a 19 year old who's getting ready to be deployed to Iraq. His Stryker brigade will leave on September 11th of this year. He's 19, he'll be gone for a year. [And so] kind of on a personal level, when I talk about, umm, the plan for the war, you know, let's make sure we have a plan here, and respecting McCain's position on that."

and...
read the comments from Alaskans regarding their Governor as of June 2007 here.

and any trips to Saddleback in her future? (from TIME magazine):

What's your religion?

Christian.

Any particular...?

No. Bible-believing Christian.

What church do you attend?

A non-denominational Bible church. I was baptized Catholic as a newborn and then my family started going to non-denominational churches throughout our life.

It's worth noting that in this interview with TIME's Jay Newton Small, conducted Aug 14, before becoming VP, her infant son is noted as being three months old. He was born on April 18th. He was just shy of being 4 months old. (And note, most moms and doctors describe their babies in weeks first, then switch to months... especially when they are in between "whole" numbers. I'm just sayin'.)

Trust me, I won't be describing her as "hot" anytime soon. As librarian or schoolmarm, maybe.

"Trust me, I won't be describing her as "hot" anytime soon. As librarian or schoolmarm, maybe."

It's a given that Jade knows hot!, but librarian or schoomarm implies she is intelligent.

Apparently you haven't met too many Journalism majors from the U. of Idaho. This ticket now has someone who graduated almost at the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy (thanks Dad and Grandpops) and a Journalism major! That's the best the Repubs have to offer? Please.

I agree with the premise that, even if true, who gives a crap about the baby? We have far more important complaints about McCain.

McCain would love for the Dems to be talking about Palin, the hurricane, WHATEVER as long as it is not him. Let's not fall into that trap.

CFMA!!

She said she doesn't know what's going on in Iraq. I guess now we can criticize?

She said she doesn't know what's going on in Iraq. I guess now we can criticize?

ABC News

In July, Palin told CNBC’s Larry Kudlow that “as for that VP talk all the time, I tell ya, I still can’t answer that question until, until somebody answers for me ‘What it is exactly that the vice president does every day?”

This is just the person to deal with Vladimir Putin if McCain were to croak, not that she'd be any worse.

Agreed on point one and two. Excuse me but she stated that 'she hasn't been really paying attention to what is going on in Iraq'. Now that her son is going there she wants to make sure that we are 'there for the right reasons'. I'm sorry but this reflects several layers of ignorance. On the other hand I don't think we need to say anything about her. I think this situation is to our advantage by just allowing her and the facts to speak for themselves. I think this has been a big distraction. We can just focus on promoting the two great leaders we have on our ticket and help them win so we don't have worry about McCain or his VP.

There is a reason why the Republicans haven't been hammering Biden hard on the Neil Kinnock thing. To most people VP doesn't matter enough to really influence their vote much. That said, I totally agree about the pregnancy rumor and the looks thing. I never bring up the inexperience, but if somebody says to me that Obama has none I think the fact the McCain is an extra order of bacon away from a fatal heart attack and his VP has zero experience is usually an effective comeback. I think a lot of women are happy to have a woman on the ballot. I think a lot of women are insulted by the way she was picked. The main thing we don't want to do is rally other women to her defense with sexism and misogyny.

Well, I expect no matter how nice you guys are the right wing bloggers will continue to spin stories that Obama is a secret Muslim born in far off Muslimland where he secretly met with 60's terrorists in his kingergarten Madrassa.

user-pic

Though I actually do agree with you. There is no reason to attack her personally. She may well be quite a great person. She just isn't minimally qualified to be Presdient.

3)Don't criticize her for knowing nothing about foreign policy until she proves that she doesn't. The last thing we need is to look foolish when Palin can speak fluently on national security issues. She may be able to.

ROFLMAO!

Yeah, cause Alaska is so close to Russia.

dood - come the fuck on .

Hey, Tena

As far as the baby issue, haven't you been posting a bunch of nonsense on that issue. Not that the baby isn't hers, but some other controversial bullsh@@. I think that was you.

user-pic

Your point?

I posted when I found out about it that she bragged about not aborting this special needs infant and now that the baby is all of 4 months old, she's walking away to be veep and that's bullshit.

OK, but on the hidden-daughter-child thing, saying "don't talk about it" is like saying "Whatever you do, don't think about a hippopotamus.

...

...

What are you thinking about RIGHT NOW!

Andrew you must be a really nice a guy, and if Barack were running for seminary president, I'd say your first point was well taken. However, since he's in a battle for President of the United States the standard is different.

We already know that scurrilous rumors (Barack's a muslim, Michelle hates America, etc.) work even if they are demonstrably false. The proposition that "Sarah Palin's fifth child is actually her daughters" is ripe for this type of treatment.

Your concern is that it will make her angry. Well, of course it will. Look how Barack and Michelle felt about all the unpatriotic, foreign-birth nonsense.

The real question is are you more concerned about your opponents feelings or your own victory. To put it another way, you have the tool, now are you tough enough to use it?

Your opponents have shown time and time again that they will stop at nothing to win, and time and time again they have emerged victorious. Now that a similar opportunity has landed in your lap, will you grasp the advantage?

On the other hand, perhaps Republicans are correct. Maybe Democrats are not stalwart enough to protect America. Perhaps the Chinese-style police state that was unveiled in Minneapolis this week is what Democrats deserve.

If that is the case, at least there will not be any damaged Republican sensibilities.

Obama and Biden should focus their attacks on McCain, ignoring Palin unless she comes up with something that needs to be addressed directly. Leno, Letterman and SNL etc. will take care of the rest.

I think it is wise to let the media and Palin herself did her own grave. The national media spotlight is harsh, and no place for amateurs. She's jumping into the shark tank. If she doesn't know what she's talking about and holds radical views, it will be revealed soon enough.

BO/JB need to go after McCain, sidestepping the GOP's very predictable use of the victim card.

She's a sideshow and a distraction more than anything. She will either gaffe herself into the next Dan Quayle or be forgotten.

Politics is jujitsu. Don't let your opponent choose where you focus your attack.

All of the caution about this that and the other - where do you think we are? Do you think this is panel discussion in front of cameras? Do you think we are the editorial board of the NYT?

This is a blog comments board - anything goes, as long as the blog host is cool with it.

Jeeebus - the hall monitoring around here has gotten unbearable -

Thanks - all you Vice Principles - I think we've been suitably cautioned.

So let me get this straight, Gov Palin?

Our men and women have been dying in Iraq for 5 1/2 years and you didn't really pay attention to it. Now that your son is going, you suddenly think we should find a plan.

It is normal for a mother to care more about their own child, than the children of others. But to be a serious candidate for the Vice President of the United States, you really should show some concern for the lives of our soldiers.

Barak Obama and Joe Biden have been demanding the Administration present a plan for Iraq since before war started. They have understood for a long time that a good plan goes a long way toward toward making war a little less unpredictable.

Meanwhile back in Alaska, after 5 1/2 years when your son is headed to Iraq, you suddenly become interested in finding a plan. Well, I'm glad you've become aware that some of America's best are dying in Iraq.

I agree, in essence let Palin make her own mistakes. But as Obama supporters we would be wrong to underestimate her, that's when people exceed expectations.

...and lay out her policies, but never her personal traits. The policies are enough.
