Good news for AP haters
The Star Tribune of Minneapolis is now the latest, and largest, newspaper to drop AP.
The reason is given is recent rate hikes announced by AP, taking effect in 2009.
A number of other newspapers have announced their cancelation, including The Spokesman-Review of Spokane, Wash., The Post Register of Idaho Falls, The Bakersfield Californian, and The Yakima Herald-Republic and Wenatchee World, both in Washington.

Well my link didn't work, and I don't know why.
One of these days maybe I'll figure out how to correctly format a blog entry.
Anywho, here's the link to copy & paste:

Perhaps this also has something to do with that prick Fournier? Just guessing (and hoping).

It would be great if Fournier cost them some business but those papers are very small ones. It's probably just the raise in price that turned them off.

Sweet. I just about lost it when I read Breibart's take on the speech tonight. I'm glad to see that papers feel they have other options.

I understand the feeling that the AP is partisan and I support the complaints. But I've seen no information that talks about other options. I'm just as upset about the quality of the MSM as most here. Still the declining revenues of newspapers is a real problem. The vast majority of the internet "news" sources is commentary on the reporting done by newspapers. The revenue stream from internet sites isn't sufficient to support that kind of reporting. Bad as it can be without the reporting from newspapers who will be watching and reporting without them? Who is going to be able to afford to pick up the slack? Most newspapers are cutting their staff and if they also withdraw from the AP it will cut back on its staff too. Its a big problem and I am very worried about it.
