John McCain Kicks His Own Ass: McCain's VP Pick

I'm sure myriad posters will throw in their two cents about McCain's selection of Palin.  Some initial obervations:

1) McCain made the pick solely to overshadow the reaction to Obama's great speech.

2) Palin was chosen as a token female.

3) Palin was a high risk choice.  Is high risk what we can expect from a McCain Presidency?

Here are some things stated during Hardball:

1) Todd - Palin's choice was a gimmick choice.

2) Mitchell - Palin was not vetted carefullyl.  She and McCain have met only once (Todd says twice).

3) Buchanan's best gush on her was that the expectations on her are so low, that she would be a success just standing up.

Please add your own observations to the list above.

All told, the selection of Palin proves that McCain does not serve a cause greater than himself.  His only cause is himself.  If McCain really cared more about his country, he would have selected a VP with more experience - someone who could have readily stepped into the office of the Presidency.

McCain clearly put the boot to his own butt today.

1) Thank gosh he didn't pick Lieberman - that would have done this, IMO. That would have been trouble for Obama, I think.

2) Yep, hilarious. "She's a hockey Mom and launches babies like a Pez dispenser!!!" That'll REALLY PO the PUMAs! Maybe enough to get them ALL to vote for Obama!

3) Yes and yes. See 1).

4) Kicked his own ass. Great way of putting it. Maybe he didn't want to win?

Then, it makes sense - he gets another hot babe to hang around him for two months while he enjoys having people adore him.

The four debates are going to be REAL fun this year!

I'm Rec'ing this on the title alone.

Thanks. BTW, y'all should read Ripper's post, which is a more contemplative than my quick screed.

Finally, I also know what McCain's response will be to those who question McCain's decision:

"McCain's decision making skill is beyond question, as it was forged during his challenging experience in Hanoi."

On August 5, Palin was admiring Obama's energy plan:

“I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska’s natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs,” Palin says in the release. “The steps taken by the Alaska State Legislature this past week demonstrate that we are ready, willing and able to supply the energy our nation needs.”

More:

Governor Palin also acknowledged the Senator’s proposal to offer $1,000 rebates to those struggling with the high cost of energy.

“We in Alaska feel that crunch and are taking steps to address it right here at home,” Governor Palin said. “This is a tool that must be on the table to buy us time until our long-term energy plans can be put into place. We have already enjoyed the support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, and it is gratifying to see Senator Obama get on board.”

Then again, it makes a little sense IF he has decided he doesn't want the job - he gets another hot babe to hang around him for two months while he enjoys having people adore him.

Just like Bob Dole, only nastier.

Debbie Wasserman-Schulz, on MSNBC's Race for the White House, made the following two observations:

1) The debate over Palin should not just be about her experience, but also about John McCain's poor judgement (I alluded to this point in my post, but it can never be stressed enough);

2)She said that McCain's choice reflected a shallow reasoning, that he was wrong to think that a woman would automatically vote for McCain just because there is someone on the ticket who "shares the same parts we do."
