John McCain's "Historic" Ad- A prediction
So the interlinks are buzzing today about an ad that John McCain will air during Obama's acceptance speech tonight. Well, not during, as I'd doubt the networks will cut to commercial while he's speaking, but probably during the COVERAGE it will air.
McCain flack Jill Hazelbaker said this:
So here's my theory/prediction. A lot of folks think its going to be an "attack" ad. I don't.
What if John McCain actually congratulates Barack Obama on his historic nomination, instead of attacking him for it?
I think its a smart move.
This would re-enforce McCain's "mavericky"/honorable image to the low information voters who don't know the kind of swiftboating McCain is engaging in.
Hey, if he's congratulating Obama on national tv, he obviously isn't questioning his patriotism or American-ness like he's been accused.
Plus, wouldn't it be seen as bad form for the man who voted against honoring MLK to rip Obama apart on his historic night, and on the anniversary of the March on Washington?
Of course, this is all speculation on my part. Who knows what the ad contains, or even if there is an ad. We'll just have to wait and see. I just wanted my prediction on the record in case I was right.
And if i'm wrong, well....it certainly won't be the last time.
Thoughts?
McCain flack Jill Hazelbaker said this:
I think this is the first of its kind. Senator McCain is going to speak direct to camera to Barack Obama. I'm not going to give away many more details than that. But suffice to say it's going to be a very exciting ad, and I think it's going to get a lot of attention.

I thought the same thing. But think about it - the benefits to him would be minimal. And how would that be juxtaposed with all the quasi-racist shit that they'll toss at him at their convention next week? And besides, if they were congratulating him, why tease such a thing as if it were the Ad to End All Ads?
No, it's either a bio ad for McCain himself or an attack.

Hmmm .... That would be the best choice McCain could make in this situation IMO.
They haven't shown much nuance so far ... so I hope instead he goes for a McCain/Rove classic dick move.

I am trying to figure out anything he could do that wouldn't making him look like a dick. Even congratulations would be stepping on an historic moment to put himself in the spotlight. But his media will cluck and coo and say "oh he is such a maverick!"
I have thought that he would "repudiate" his campaign tactics during the summer and let 3rd parties continue the slimefest while retaining his maverickness and "honor". Maybe this is that rollout.

I bet he will congrat Obama. This will make him look gracious (hate using that word for mctool) at least to the msm who are in love with him, they will say he has class etc etc.
But at the same time I bet he will throw a challenge to Obama (like town hall meetings, or agreeing to no more negative ads, a truce if you will), O can barely say no to something like that. A loaded challenge I am guessing.
Also like to add that mccain is a dick.

i thought about the "challenge" thing too...but they've already agreed to a debate schedule so i'm not sure what good that would do.
the reason i think its a "congrats" thing is because his flack said he would be speaking directly to obama. And mccain doesn't like to attack head on, he leaves that for his slimy surrogates and 527s...
but i've no doubt if thats the path he takes the corporate media will trip over themselves fawning over what a great guy mccain is...it's like, when he speaks, the press decides his word is good enough and you don't actually have to hold him accountable for his own campaign or even challenge him when his facts are wrong...
so yes, gracious will be the meme. and it will be repeated enough by the corporate media to become true in the mind of the public.
IF he congrats him tonight...but like i said, its all speculation at this point.

Yeah, they agreed to a whopping 3 debates, but mcsenile himself said that the negativity could have been avoided if Obama had agreed to the town hall style meetings. I really think that the old man is going to try to take the high road and offer to call off the attacks of O agrees to meet him in the "middle" on something. This will give mcsenile the image of "coming together for the good of the country" and that is a meme the msm will gorge themselves on till November.
Obama could pre-emt this though by calling for it before his official speech, which would be great.
Thanks for your post btw.

Of course if that link Orlando just posted is right, I am wrong. And for that I would be happy.
mccain is still a dick.

I know!!! Maybe -- much against his will, of course -- he'll take the bold and meaningful step of letting the American public know that he was a Prisoner Of War. Do you think? Maybe even describe a bit of what it was like, painful tho it is to recall it all.
(I should feel ashamed and never thought I would be making a joke about an experience like that, but his campaign has made it a joke .... which is even sadder.)

you're right. he's a hypocrite. he's able to talk out of both sides of his mouth better than anyone i've ever seen before...

Yup, he's a dick.
Has Leno or Letterman started calling him on the POW-excuse-for-everything yet? This might do it.

If Obama congratulates McCain tomorrow with an ad that says "Happy 72nd Birthday" that would be the political equivalent.
