Sarah Palin for VP Open thread
There are multiple indications that McCain has chosen Alaska governor Sarah Palin for VP. In anticipation of this announcement, here are my quick pros and cons for the pick.
Pros (for McCain):
Woman
Out of the Box pick, making McCain look maverick-ish
not Romney
not Lieberman
Cons:
Inexperienced
Deep, deep connections with Big Oil
From a state where GOP is mired in corruption scandal
That's all I have in terms of facts right now. I think short short-term she is a good pick; however her connections to Oil will reinforce the theme that a McCain pick is more of the same.

One thing to note: Sarah Palin's Wikipedia page has been edited dozens of times in the last couple of days, with a attempt to portray her in as positive a light as possible. It looks like some propaganda groundwork has been laid by the GOP at Wikipedia.

Actually, her anti-corruption efforts have been notable. She is quite young, though.

Oh well. It looks like it is not Palin after all:

I guess the GOP should have its fun now, because the next couple of months are going to be brutal to them.

Is she is the pick, I think it will be seen as the lame attempt at gaining women voters that is would be. I'd love to see a woman in the White House but not just because she is a woman and if Palin is the pick it would just be too obvious I think and I don't mean anything negative about Palin either; she seems like a decent public servant at least on the face of her background.

She's under investigation for corruption, already, before this was done.

I can understand wanting to choose a woman from a political POV, but this choice. It's not just a curveball. It's a screwball. He had so many talented GOP women to choose from.
What does it say that his wife was a beauty queen, and now his VEEP choice is a beauty queen. If you accept that the choice of a runningmate says something about a person's judgment, picking Miss Congeniality is scarey.
They say McCain loves to play craps. This choice given his age and health and the serious challenges we face, means to me that McCain is gambling high stakes with the country's future.

Local Alaskan tv report nails Palin lying about firing scandal. What was McCain thinking?

Simple it is McPAIN.
She should have turned down the offer as VP.
For the national security of the american people and the future of the country.
So she accepted, then she MUST take all the punches and Joe Biden will gave. He will chew her up.
This is so so sad. It shows what kind of judgement they both have. 1 term president (ifhewins)he will be 77 and he has cancer.
"Enough" of these games McPain - people lives are at stake. Your chopper was shot down decades ago, stop making more mistakes.
