Isn't the rest of the GOP getting sick of Texas hogging the ticket?
I wonder if the small minority who thought Sebelius would have been a "slap in the face" would consider this the same.
It would create some interesting dynamics. I am still hoping for Rudy though :D
OIC! Make McCain look exciting by having the most boring woman politician to ever appear on television stand next to him.
Oh! Now I get it. Thanks!
=)
What are people complaining about?
The Dems have broken up the ground so much in this election that it's legitimate to have the GOP put a woman on the ticket!
However, I am happy that since this isn't being seen in gender terms (on this thread at least) that maybe we have made some progress:
viz Hutchinson a boring Texan
rather than Hutchinson a woman.
Congrats to us!
You think Romney had some bad things to say about McCain, Kay Baily Hutchinson hates the guy! He would sooner pick Hillary than pick her.
I've also heard that she loathes McCain. -- and I DON'T think she's necessarily going to be in step with real Rovian tactics. ---- And what do you suppose the dynamics would be between Kay and Cindy?? Do they speak the same language, I wonder? Mind-boggling.
Maybe your title threw me off, but I mis-read your first sentence thusly:
McCain rides Kay Bailey Hutchinson for his VP choice.
I think my reading gives a much better mental image, no?
In terms of disliking sexist imagery of female candidates and professionals, no.
Des, just wanted you to know I sent Hill 25 bucks tonite after Bill's smackdown. My wife thought I'd lost my mind till I told her about your unity thread. Let's Kick some neoCon ass.
Who is your source?? Are you being serious?? Tell use more!
Crap. I meant Tell us more!
"Kay Bailey Hutchinson for his VP choice"
It will be a formidable pair, snide smirk on one face and a vacuously blank look on the other.
So glad to see you, Desi. ;-)
I suspect McCain might risk alienating many of the women he would seek to lure by such an obviously cynical maneuver.
C'mon. Hutchison as president should something happen to 72 year old, POW damanged McCain???? Hard to believe he would make that choice....
I think it would bring more votes to Obama/Biden so it would be fine with me. I would worry if I was going to let McCain have a chance to win this thing...
A lot of conservatives would be pissed; she is pro-choice from what I gather. The Democrats would be stoked and the Republicans would be ripping each other apart.
That RNC guy was saying they will not accept a pro-choice running mate. They wouldn't even have time to let the base calm down with the convention being next week.
Here we go. This is from our friends at Redstate:
"Romney is crashing in InTrade and Kay Bailey Hutchison is going up.
I'll remind you all she is pro-choice and I'll tell you all I will puke on my keyboard if she is the pick and probably will cease being excited about your campaign. She'll be a good governor. She is not an inspiring Veep Pick.
And I speak for a large, large number of Republicans.
That is all."
Dear John McCain,
We think it would be a good idea for you to start a vicious intramural knife-fight by picking a pro-choice running mate.
Your friends,
The Democrats
I think diversity of leadership and opinion on the Republican ticket
is a good thing for all of us in the long run. In this case, though, I like the concept more than the Republican's proposed execution.
I agree with this, but I've come to the conclusion that this simply isn't possible in the modern Republican party. If John McCain was still and independent thinker, he would not the the nominee of his party today. My real problem with McCain isn't that he's been swallowed by the Rovian wing of the party, but that he's accepted and is apparently comfortable with this. There will be no diversity of leadership at the top of the Republican party until it implodes. Their fringe is too strong.
They way they're going, Libertarians will have some real electoral opportunities soon in traditional Republican areas.
Kay Bailey's selection as an appeal to undecided neoCons could cost the Democrats the "Sisterhood of the Jackboot" vote. Bless her lil heart.
Condi.
No! Fluffy Hutchison!
Too fucking awesome - one of the emptiest heads in America, and a Texan.
