« OH, SNAP! John McCain is actively trying to raise money here at TPM, RIGHT NOW | chaunceybaker's Blog | Let Palin Go... »

Silly Season is Starting

As much as I love the way Obama is hammering away at McCain right now, I'm a little disappointed it's over the number of houses he (his wife) owns.  Oh, and I know, it's a fair reflection on McCain's age/connection to the economy blah, blah, blah.  At least Obama is trying to tie his attack to some policy question (by however a tenuous thread).

Which got me to thinking of how many weeks (months?)have gone by since the media has reported any serious policy debate between the two candidates?  I can't even remember and I'm a hellofa lot younger than McCain.  But you say: 'Ahhhh...Chauncey, you cynical fool what about the Q&A last weekend (check and mate)'.  And I reply to you blathering titmice: the only things I heard on the news were Cone of Silence and $5,000,000.

If you want to see something really funny, turn on cable news and watch the talking heads try and figure out who Obama's running mate is.  It's almost like a Laurel and Hardy routine.  Nobody has a fucking clue.  Not the schmucks on TV, not me and certainly not you (unless I just embarassed myself, and Obama has just texted his pick).  I almost couldn't turn it off...almost.

On an unrelated issue, I think Glenn Greenwald at Salon has his finger on something as to why the right wing ass-faces don't like McCain, he makes them look like absolute fools to anyone with two brain cells to rub together.

The delicious hint is in the link...so scandalous it is!

I apologize for my brusqueness, the semester just started.

Rec'd for the link. I'd love to see all of the Republican talking heads quoted in that piece confronted with their own words and asked to comment about McCain. I bet they'd sing a different tune.

Obama tried to talk issues for a month and was drowned out by silly McCain ads and smears. It's the "Don't hate the playa, hate the game" defense here, but Obama would love to talk about issues, but thats not what McCain or the MSM wants to do.

"Obama would love to talk about issues, but thats not what McCain or the MSM wants to do."

Hard to sustain this argument when it was McCain who wanted to do multiple joint town halls across America to talk about the issues and Obama wouldn't do it.

Oh, I see, McCain can't even articulate his policy positions or challenge Obama's without Obama's help?

I've been eagerly awaiting this new meme. Let's hope it catches on. The obscenity of the number of houses isn't really about McCain's money, because most of them are Cindy's.

Eventually someone, whether it's Obama's campaign itself or some 527 group, will add the Just a Gigolo tale to the "out of touch" narrative. That is, he's not just rich; he's a kept man, and what does a kept man know from the needs of us voters?

Yikes, Chauncey, sorry to be so off topic. Another classic example of skimming the first paragraph and responding without even noticing that my clever comment directly went against your point.

It's going to get terrifically hard to get to issues over the next few months. I've gotten so frustrated by this that I've sunk low enough to relish the attacks more than the issues.

I believe that McCain will soon be revealed as the empty shell he truly is, and that at that point Obama will be able to revel in comparing his positions to McCain's flimsy excuse for policy. I do believe it. And I am trying to have faith that this time no quantity of Ayers or 'celebrity' attacks will draw over 50% of Americans to abandon their vital interests.
