You Heard it Here First: Obama/Kaine 08!
Well, it's not official yet, but there are a number of signs that are strongly suggesting Kaine will be the pick, perhaps announced as early as next week.
- Just released on the NYT website is a pro-Kaine article putting him on the short list:

-Earlier today, Obama announced that Bayh and Biden will be speaking on Wend. night at the convention, making their VP prospects doubtful. While this may be some sort of media head-fake, both Markos at Daily Kos and Jerome Armstrong at MyDD think not:

- Finally, according to Ambinder and a secretive source, Obama will probably be making an appearance in Virginia next Thursday:

I always thought that Webb would have been a great choice, and I'm still trying to get over his decision to withdraw his name, but I see Kaine as a good Virginian replacement!

I sincerely hope not. This guy is good and kind and sincere and head's on straight, but he's A COOLER!
BHO needs a running mate with real star power, with pizazz, chutzpah, and knock-out charisma.
There is really only one possible choice.

DWS
and you get Florida in the bargain, plus a media-genic star, plus a gesture of respect to the Clinton camp. Plus a debater that will demolish anyone the GOP can put up. mmPlus a good age-match, plus another glass ceiling broken.
What's not to like?

Not a fan of Kaine at all. Won't affect my support of Obama, but I can't get behind a staunch pro-lifer. I was hoping for Biden, but oh well. I'll choose to view this as another name off the list that leaves Feingold untouched. While I disagree with the notion that presidential and vice presidential candidates have to be selected to bring their region into play, I don't know if a Senator from Illinois would pick a Wisconsite for VP. Ultimately, I'll be surprised whomever the pick will be.
For posterity's sake, here's Feingold's (2006?) address to the New Hampshire Democratic Party Convention

It's funny, this thought secretly passes through my brain every time I see her on the talk shows. Then I think, "No, that just wouldn't happen." But in a lot of ways it would be a brilliant choice and the culmination of an impeccable execution of the VP shell game. If there's one woman he could pick without irking the Clinton folks, it's probably Wasserman-Schultz.
She got a lot of flack recently for her unwillingness to campaign against the Florida Republicans. But her state and federal records reflect solid liberal credentials. She was great on Schiavo.
She's even younger than Barack, though, and has only been in Congress for just about four years. A long and distinguished career at the state level, though. Jewish, Florida, great family, viscerally likeable (IMO).
All that being said, I would be surprised. It's fun to play the VP game, though . . .

It wouldn't prevent me voting for him, but I would give great pause to any VP who was a member of Hadassah. I approve of her stance on many issues, and acknowledge that she isn't a fierce Zionist, but I don't know if that is the right message to send internationally right now.

bdh,
I have been pushing her name on the threads for a month or more now and your the first to "get" it.
Don't be surprised if it works out that she's picked!
Unbeatable ticket.
Just the visuals: McCain and whatever guy he picks (unless he swings for the fences and picks Condi)
versus
Obama and DWS.
No Contest. Game Over.

Although is it some sort of sign that just below this post there's a web ad for a Tim Kaine video called "Fired Up for Change"?

I bet you're wrong. I bet the choice will be of someone whose has not been mentioned as being on Obama's "short list".
And I bet it will not be DWS, who is actively supporting the two extreme right wing republican congresspersons in Florida.
