Bill Clinton can win this election for Obama

Just read an interesting post over at Marc Ambinder's site, where he talks about how AIG going under could start a cascade of bank closures.  We are on the precipice of financial meltdown.  And right now, nobody trusts the Republicans on economic issues, and they don't quite trust Obama enough, either.  Greenspan is not really trustworthy considering he's largely responsible for this mess.  Who does that leave?  I'd guess Warren Buffet is still high on the list of trusted public figures, but he's less of an economist and more of an investor.  That leaves Bill Clinton who still retains huge public trust when it comes to economic issues.

I realize that Obama and Clinton have issues.  But now would be a good time for Obama to swallow his pride and do a tour through the rust belt states with Bill Clinton by his side.  A message of economic security will resonate with people worried about the meltdown on Wall Street, and with Clinton vouching for Obama, those conservative Democrats and Independents who still have fond memories of the prosperous 90's will have some of their fears of Obama assuaged.

Time for Obama to swallow his pride? Amusing. Now why would an ex-President who had his Presidency crapped on by Obama, who was called a racist by Obama and discredited with black voters by Obama, and who was used by Obama as an excuse not to pick Hillary Clinton for VP want to make a tour with Obama? Seems to me that's a lot for Clinton or anyone else to swallow. Dream on.

Billy is correct and doubt the President can save him.

It is Obama's election to win or lose.

i think you people are assuming too much and your prejudice is blinding you some....the clintons crapped on obama, but obama withheld punches when he should have landed some tough blows...he never allowed pride to get in his way...do not feign amnesia in order to deceive! obama has been reaching out to bill c even when bill was yes, making polarizing remarks that played handsomely with ignorant racist voter...obama, neither of his surrogates called bill a racist...the voters interpreted bill's weird actions as such...bill's actions turned off black voters and turned on racist white voters in KY, WV, PA, OH etc....a wash if you ask me....

why in the hell are we blaming obama for this again???? if he was a white candidate and bill's attitude was interpreted the same way by AA and racist whites, would you still be harping on this? also, obama has gone out of his way to reach out to bill even while the primaries was still going on....do you not remember obama saying over and over again that bill would be awesome stumping for him? bill had a chip on his shoulder (a chip we all should understand b/c his dear wife lost)...bill is apparently over it or getting around to it....hillary has put on a decent show of getting over it....obama has to take the crumbs the clinton's toss his way...in the end, it is great b/c if he succeeds, he can claim that success without having the added insult of "clintons winning this election for him",....without their help, he is managing just fine...with their help, things could be better...either way obama will be just fine!

if you are crying sour grapes at this late stage, you have the issues, not obama, not the clintons...for practical purposes, they all have already conceded the fact that DEMS need to win regardless of who made it to the top of the ticket!!! get over it...the more outrage you fake over clinton, the harder is it to believe that you are not a hidden racist who is pissed that you have been called out on it!

And that is why Bill Clinton cannot be the savior for Obama's campaign. Clinton vouched for Obama at the convention, and Obama has never vouched for him. Bill Clinton is tarnished as a racist. Clinton supporters are tarnished as race baiters. Lovely short-term thinking to win the primary, but makes it awfully hard to unite the party or try to benefit peripherally from the Clinton legacy of the 1990s that Obama spent the primary season trying to tear down.

Obama can win this election for Obama. Hillary and Bill will do what they can to help, but they are limited by the damage they sustained through the primary.
