Calling All Economists!
The Republican Richard Shelby spoke last night and said he had in his hand a list of... and for a freaking minute I thought he was going to do a Joe McCarthy and say it was names of Communists... but, no, it was a list of several hundred economists who reject the bailout plan. Well, that's great! I'm all for economists having an opinion on this. In fact, why doesn't our government convene a panel of economists to try to hammer this out instead of a bunch of lawmakers who are all trying to save their political necks. I don't know about you, but when I'm delivering a baby I hardly ever call an accountant.

The real question is --- what are the names of the two hundered, yes he said 200, economists that take the negative stand on the program proposed? Is it not fact that a very similar program not only turned Sweden's economy around in the late 90s but also payed the government a profit for the effort? So were there 200 or 20 or 2 that a bonafide economists supporting his position?

I don't have time to look it up this minute, but somewhere last night I found the listing of the economists involved. I really don't understand why top level people like Warren Buffet and others who truly understand the way the economy works aren't in there having a brainstorm and offering real advice on this mess. What the hell do lawmakers know about how to structure a bailout?
