How to Elect Obama: A 5-Point Manual
1. Every time the media picks up a negative McCain meme about the Democratic ticket and repeats it, make a donation to Obama's campaign.
2. Realize that the Obama/Biden campaign needs your brawn as much as your awesome super-brain. While blogging at TPM serves to develop some useful memes and spread information, it may not be as powerful as taking what you know and using it to persuade another great mind down the street or across town. So hook up with your nearest Obama campaign office to canvass, phone and write letters to the local newspaper editor.
3. Let the quarterbacks lead. Stay on message when speaking with undecideds. Not your message, but Obama/Biden's. Believe it or not, they know what's on people's minds. Help them by reinforcing the core message, supporting it and answering questions you can.
4. Advertise for the Democrats. No, don't buy 200 spots in drivetime. Just wear an Obama button on your lapel. Put up a campaign sign. Buy a bumper sticker. Wear an Obama/Biden T-shirt.
5. Think clearly. Argue assertively. Keep your sense of humor. And never let the bastards get you down.

6. (elaborating on the last sentence in your #5 , really) Recall The Commentator Formerly known as NCSteve's advance heads-up that this weekend's polls would artificially improve McCain's post-Convention poll numbers. Obama and his people have been underestimated repeatedly. Have a little faith that they're hardly about to lay down. There are debates coming up. Imagine how fretful McCain's people are, praying he won't say too many, too damaging self-destructive things between now and November.
The amount of time between now and the election is an eternity in politics.

Ripper, great post. One more thing:
Reading Al Giordano (http://narcosphere.narconews.com/thefield)
today, he points out that registration deadlines in most states are Oct. 5-6.
Spread the word!!! I recommend mentioning registration deadlines, and the need to get as many people registered to vote, especially among the youth, as possible. Perhaps a sig campaign like this?

Also, vote early, if you can, so that you can clear your schedule on Nov 4th and spend some time helping GOTV.

This is the first time in my life that I purchased campaign paraphernalia. I can't keep track of the positive comments I've received. I know I am adverting for him and I willing to do so for the sake of this country.

This blog was in the recommended list.
Still want to accuse me of stalking you?
You wrote a nice post. Too bad you don't practice what you preach.

I'd bet you were looking in a mirror when you posted that one, dude?
Ripper, if this gratuitous personalization continues, I'd report it.
Just sayin' it adds nothing to the conversation and quite often stifles it. Think of your fellow posters.

Great post!
I certainly feel like I'm spinning my wheels on this site - for real folks, it's preaching to the choir here.
I'm totally doing my word of mouth campaign, not many people I know would admit to changing their vote - but putting doubt into their minds about McCain/Palin is certainly working, (and I'm in Alaska!).
The whole Bible church association isn't playing too well here - lots of Alaskans are Catholic, (history of Jesuit missionaries, not all good).
I pointed out to my dad that Palin and her super-religious ilk hate Catholics as much as they do "liberals" because they feel they don't pray "correctly" - he paused for a long time at that. (He's a Chicago Catholic from the South Side and really an admitted racist). He's told me he's likely to stay home and was reconsidering when Palin got the nomination, the point about evangelicals having so much for disdain towards Catholics seemed to strike home and I think he might stay home on Nov 4th if for no other reason.
We also have a Mormon friend who is totally on the fence - obviously the campaign against Romney (the Mormon) by Huckabee and his Televangelist friends has left a nasty mark. He's a social conservative from head to toe, but good governance of our economy seems to be his highest priority.
My husband and I have been political junkies for years, all our friends and associates know it and we've fielded more than a few phone calls since Sarah got the nomination - me thinks all questions about her fitness are good questions!

The key is to keep things even until October 20th...
Once the final two weeks are here, the Obama campaign can outspend McCain's 15-1 and dilute whatever message is left.

Isn't there a blackout period at the end there, where tv ads are banned? Anyone know?
I think we want to have a better margin to prevent any last minute "surprises" from the Rethugs.
