MSM
One of the mysteries of this campaign to me is McCain's strategy. It seems that his whole campaign has been a hodge podge of stunts and name calling events, and I think he is getting punished in the polls because of it. (Although, Obama's campaign deserves a lot of credit in this situation as well.)
However, within this hodge podge of craziness, there has been a constant complaint about the main stream media. From the day he announced Sarah Palin, there hasn't been a day when someone from McCain campaign hasn't complained about MSM. As it turns out, I don't agree with the fact that MSM has been unfair to McCain, however this complaint is something that both sides of the spectrum can relate to. So, I think the left should try to use this sense of animosity in its favour. After all, I think one reason that the MSM can be so easily swayed one way or the other is the lack of real competition in the field, created by many years of republican careless deregulation of the ownership rules. This is a chance for us to mobilize all parties to reverse these changes.
Considering these complaints arise from the uber partisan corners, one has to be careful about the line of attack. We shouldn't spend too much energy arguing that the MSM is not being unfair to McCain, since that group is not going to believe us. However if we sympathize with them in such a way that we are not agreeing with what they're saying, then it might start a bit of discussion. If (that's a big if, I guess) these discussions leads enough of them to realize that we need more competition to the extent that it becomes an issue for a good portion of the republicans, then this situation might improve in the long run.
